A Special Surprise | Everlark
It had almost been 2 years since the end of the rebellion, 12 was almost entirely rebuilt with fresh faces moving into the district to start their quaint families. It was still a weird thing to Katniss, walking around the district like she had just a couple years ago. Now there weren’t people begging for food and starving on the streets, the children were able to play happily where ever they please. They no longer having to worry about that one day, every year where the entire district fell silent. The tension so thick you could cut it with a knife, the reaping, the Hunger Games. All of it over, people were now able to freely move between the districts and live where ever they please.
Katniss was pacing back and forth in the house that she and Peeta now shared. They had gotten married slightly over a year ago, the ceremony still enough to bring tears to her eyes. The boy with the bread who had saved her life was now her husband and the thought of living with out him since the Hunger Games, Quarter Quell, and the Rebellion was a thought she couldn’t even begin to think about. She had almost lost him once to the Capitol and after many months of fixing each other they were finally able to move on with their lives. That included beginning their family.
Peeta wanted children more than anything and Katniss knew that, deep down she wanted them as well but the trauma from her past haunted her and it was almost a trained response now to expect something to go terribly wrong. Peeta was always good at talking her out of her depressive moments reflecting on the past. She knew everything would be alright as long as she had Peeta in her life. So, that is what lead her to this moment now, pacing back and forth anxiously waiting for Peeta to get home from the bakery. She was now a month and a half late and getting sick every morning. She had been hiding the sickness from Peeta until she knew that she was 100% on the matter.
