"You look..." It's the first thing he can say. Eadwulf falls silent. If he had ever imagined a reunion, this wasn't it. Not that he is complaining, but in his imagination, it had all been more nostalgic. With the Bren he once knew, with Trent dead, and not after being severely scolded by one of their new friends. None of those factors apply, however.

"...different." It's the best way he can describe it. Healthier, for a start. Older, and more mature as well. Not to mention the name. And the beard.

truth, eadwulf: do you still love bren

"I wish someone could answer that question for me." He hums, pensive. "I do. I still love what I remember of them, before—," he pauses.

'Before the night he killed his parents' is easier to say, plurals and second persons are tougher. He remembers his parents' face just as vividly as he remembers Bren's, though only the latter stirs something in his stomach that makes him feel sick. The memory comes back in flashes, holding their wrists while Astrid held the already disfigured side of her face; being unable to help her, and unable to help Bren either. The last outburst of raw emotion and panic and unrestrained violence in their eyes before becoming something of an empty husk.
