leaves their dirty clothes on the floor: Roderick

forgets to run the dish washer:... Roderick.

pumps gas for the car: Rod doesn't drive, but I think we said that Milly has a car? He would probably pump the gas since she would have to drive all the time.

drives when they’re going somewhere: ::points to previous answer:: Milly definitely because Rod only has one eye and that messes with your depth perception.

rearranges the furniture: Milly.

falls asleep with the TV on: Both of them! I can see both of them snuggling on the couch and passing out in each other's arms.

gets to use the bathroom first: Milly probably wakes up before Rod since I doubt Rod sleeps much at night. 

decides the temperature for the ac/heater: Milly! Because she's not as used to Chicago's temperatures. Rod can handle the cold, but I feel like Milly's much more used to Texas heat. 

sets up holiday decorations: Both! But Rod would need a little nudging. Holidays make him a little sad, but if Milly's in the spirit, it doesn't take long for him to join in.

leaves the lights on: Rod prefers natural light during the day, but if there are lights left on at night, he would totally leave them on- especially if he's been looking at crime scene photos and files before bed.

uses the bathroom with the door open: I can't really see either of them doing this. Rod maybe for the first bit when they were living together, but after he got used to having someone else around, he wouldn't do that anymore.

fixes the plumbing (or calls the plumber): Rod is CONVINCED that he can fix things. (He can't.) So he normally tries to fix it himself first, but then Milly has to end up calling someone before he floods the apartment.

"Don’t touch me!"

He felt the sting of her hand against his cheek and retreated with slow, steady, calm steps. One of his hands crept up to touched the tender place where she had stricken him. He stared at her with his one blue eye and the one glass orb, which was just as blue, but dead looking and vacant. His lips still retained a little of the warmth he had stolen from her mouth before she had shoved him away, before she'd slapped him.

The warmth was quickly fading; he felt himself shiver with the cold of her absence.

He watched her fold her clothes and push them into her suitcase. He didn't make another move toward her or break the heavy, suffocating silence that was falling over them like a fog. The biting sting in the side of his face had faded into nothing- he wished that she had hit him harder so that the pain would linger.

Soon, there would be no trace of her left behind.

It would be as if she had never been there at all.

“Morrison...,” He finally said in a voice that sounded nothing like him. It was subdued and flavored with an emotion that he had no experience with. She didn't seem to notice his quiet supplication over the sound of her violently packing. He tried once more in a much more quiet voice. “Vermilion.... Milly...?” He had never called her by that name before- it had been reserved for his other half.

“Don't you ever call me that.” She snapped, at the same time closing her suitcase with a resounding click, like a lock being slipped into place. Like her belongings, she was locking away her heart and he would likely never see it again. So he, too, locked away the part of him that was hurting. He tried to gather up the anger that usually fueled his existence, but there was not enough to burn for long.

Soon, he was standing in the middle of the little apartment, watching her walk to the door. She stopped and for one beautiful moment, he thought she might change her mind. Instead, she tilted her head so that he could almost see her face passed her curtain of red hair. “Can I say goodbye to him?”

His shoulders drooped and he felt a heavy weight settling in his stomach. With the last of his fire, he drew himself up, straightened his back, and tilted up his chin. It was difficult, but he twisted his lips into a smirk. “He's gone. I can't get to him anymore.” He swallowed back a lump that had formed in the back of his throat and clenched his fists at his sides. His nails dug into his palms. “I tried to tell you that you'd kill him by doing this.”

He had hoped that this would gain some sort of response from her, but she just turned away, opened the door, and stepped through it. She was gone.

She was gone.

He felt her absence keenly and the other part of his mind where Roderick dwelled was almost vacant. It was as if she had taken him with her when she disappeared into the hall.

For a while, he paced in the apartment, pausing every now and then to glance at the door. His finger rubbed the wedding band on his finger, and he felt a little jab of discomfort in the center of his chest. What had happened to being together through sickness and health? For better or worse? He supposed he shouldn't have been surprised. There was nothing in their vows about him.

If she couldn't stand to be near him, no one could.

♖ :A kill you regret

There is only one kill that I regret: the killing of Rhea Moreau. I don't delight in hurting women. The women I have known in my life have been nothing but supportive and caring- even to a monster such as myself. Rhea was killed out of neccessity. She was not taken because she had angered me, but rather because she just so happened to be associated with someone who had. She was brave and intelligent and a kind hearted creature. I did not enjoy ending her life. As an apology, I took extra time with her and made her into a butterfly. I gave her wings so that she could be free.

I took one of her eyes, but instead of keeping it, I sent it to her lover. Not to further drive in the fact that he had wounded me so deeply, though I suppose he probably thought that, but so that he could always have a piece of her soul with him. I think she would have wanted that.

♙ :Most malicious act tied to your name

That would be the killing of the man who nearly killed Morrison. I will not even speak his name- it only infuriates me more. I tore him to pieces. I carved him up so much that he was unrecognizable. I tore out both of his eyes. I kept one of them and crushed the other under my shoe so that his soul would never find rest. The first glass eye that I had made for myself was the same pattern of colors of this man's eyes. He was part of what made me who I am now, and I like to wear that eye when I go looking for a new canvas.

♕ :Last kill

My last kill was a man named Ernest Potts. I was in a particularly bad mood, and I know this is going to sound petty, but he cut me off in traffic. I hadn't killed in a while because I had been trying to do better for Morrison. He cut me off and had the gall to flip me off. So, I followed him and when he finally stopped, I punched him until he lost consciousness and took him back to the butcher's shop. I ended up making a mess of that canvas and dumping him in one of the dumpsters on the edge of the city.

Coming Home || When I Get to Texas.

I’m coming home         I’m coming home              tell the World I’m coming home                      Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday....

It was raining.

Water and mud seeped into the back of his pants, which were sticking to his calves. His skin was a landscape of goosebumps and pale skin; dark shadows lurked beneath his eye. His clothes were rumpled from nights sleeping in the backs of buses. He carried with him the faint scent of a man who had used the sinks of rest stop bathrooms to freshen himself up; he hadn't taken the time to splash cologne about his throat before he fled.

There were no bags clutched in his trembling hands. Rainwater was trickling over veins and scabbed knuckles and fingers with torn and bitten nails. It slid around a wedding band; the skin around the ring was raw with nights and days and hours upon hours of twisting and shifting and twisting and tugging off and shoving back on. The skin of his hands was rough and dotted with old, pale scars.

His hair was a tangle of curls that had been allowed to grow wild like an untamed forest. Stubble had blossomed into the beginnings of a dark beard and connecting mustache that circled a slash of a mouth with lips pressed firmly closed and locked from the inside. They were dry, worn lips- lips dusty from lack of speech and kisses. There were lines about his mouth hidden by the dark turf of untrimmed hair- they were hard lines carved from frowns and sighs so deep it was hard to gather the lost air back again.

He stood, he trembled, he stared at the house in front of him, all at once familiar and strange, beautiful and terrible. He lingered there, shuddering and faltering like a toy whose batteries were just on the verge of failure. The light of a phone display washed over his drawn features, casting long shadows over cheeks that had once been full with smiling, but of late had so often stretched down with frowning that they were flat and dipping ever so slightly inward. The tight lips parted to let a few words slip into the speaker- they were nearly drowned out by the rain.

The phone disappeared into a pocket.

He took a step forward and decided it was not a proper movement. He took it back and hovered there while the rain proceeded to sweep away the tears running from his eyes. The light from the opening door near blinded him, but a shadow soon filled the door. His eyes traced the lines that made up the silhouette that stood in the midst of the light. The glow from the house stretched down over the porch and the drive and washed over him. It seemed to restore him; he took a step and it was good.

The second step was better and by the third he was running.

He breathed a name into the sky and it was punctuated by the sound of thunder.

He and the other collided as if brought together by a magnetic force. Their bodies fit together like the pieces of a puzzle.

Her fingertips brushed the sunken cheeks, her thumbs tugged the corners of the tired mouth, and when she touched him, the hard lines were smoothed away. The smile brought back the fullness to his cheeks, and a spark flickered in his eye. She combed her hands through his hair and tamed the wild jungle that had grown there. She kissed his lips and returned to them their softness,words, and laughter. Her mouth found his throat and shrunk the lump that had grown there. She breathed into him and he found his lungs filled with a new, fresh air. His trembling hands found their place against the sides of her face and her warmth and light seeped into him so that the goosebumps fled and his blood ran steady and warm.

His heart began to beat again.

And he stepped from the darkness and the rain into the light and warmth.

Tenderly, she drew him home.
