Not the anon from before, but I have similar feelings about Lily. She totally outed Sammy- just not deliberately and not directly. I mean Frickard basically says she's the reason he knew in the first place, and Sammy confirms this after the call with Frickard, I don't remember his exact quote but it's something like "they all must know, they've probably been tittering away about it." She didn't say anything outright, but she didn't leave a lot of room for interpretation either.

listen I don’t mean to take a hard line on this one, but lily did not out sammy. she calls into the station in episode 66 but she never implies that sammy and jack are anything more than friends. the only reason that she calls at all is because sammy had called her a quitter a few episodes previous and it had gotten under her skin

I also want to point out that there is absolutely no way gr*g figured this out himself–there was definitely some himinist bullshit theory going on that sammy was gay, and this was just the final piece in the puzzle.

I’m not denying that lily’s call was the catalyst. sammy himself says this to lily, but he also says in the same sentence that he’s glad that it’s out in the open now. and I think that’s because sammy knew that one way or another he was going to be outed. I think it was only a matter of time.

Do you think Luminary shares your commitment to creating diverse, inclusive and progressive content? Will agreeing to work with them affect your ability to maintain a diverse and inclusive creative team?

I can’t speak to Luminary’s intentions because I’m not a member of the company itself, but I will say that their initial slate of shows casts a wide net - female creators, creators of color, queer creators, nonbinary creators, etc. etc. So from a purely programming standpoint, they seem committed to putting forth a diverse range of shows! 

From the standpoint of our working relationship, I truly cannot overstate how little Luminary is involved with the content itself. When I first started talking to them, they were very clear that they’re a platform that wants to provide a viable way of sustaining a creative business for artists (and, I would imagine, they also hope to make a decent amount of money) but that they trust creators to know their audience and their content. 

Our team has only become more inclusive since partnering with Luminary - we have more women writers (by which I mean, more writers, all of whom are women), more people of color both in the cast and behind the scenes, and a whole smorgasbord of personal perspectives that our team is bringing to the show. 

In a weird way, I have more creative control than ever. I’m still the one calling 100% of the shots, but I now have the capabilities to hire other people with great ideas and I’m not restricted in my storytelling by budget constraints. Honestly, a huge part of the appeal of a partnership like this was the doors it opens for real inclusivity, where under-represented voices are not having their talents abused and are actually getting paid.
