Burningman hate post bc I’m one of its biggest haters. Before I hate on it I do want to appreciate why it became a thing. It became a thing to basically build a community around art and culture, and that as an idea is super cool and i believe could have been done a lot better. Now for the many reasons I hate it, the biggest one for me is the impact on the environment. Every year tons of plastic is left in the desert; not only that but last year there was so much waste left that they considered canceling it this year. On that note, so many people who say that they live near the festival hate it and have tried to get it moved somewhere else or stopped completely. I feel like if the people who live in the area hate it, it shouldn’t be a thing.
Off the envirmental side of it I also hate the people who go there. It is a bunch of rich wannabe hippies who also just so happen to be some of the most entitled people you would meet going there then complaining when there is desert weather and acting like it’s such an expected shame when it goes horribly wrong. “Omg every year it storms like crazy and the heat is horrible!! I wonder why!!” They cry and piss themselves as they still go every year. It is a capitalists wet dream disguised as an open place for people who love and care for each other and the environment. Also super random but STD’s spread around it like wildfire, like because it has become mostly a thing of sharing drugs and orgies STD’s and other diseases spread around it quickly.
I also recently learned that every year a bunch of pets are left behind in the desert bc their owners wanna go, learned they couldn’t take in their pet, and just decided to leave them outside. “Oh but shoups, why would they do that? People love their pets?” BECAUSE ITS A BUNCH OF RICH ASSHOLES ON DRUGS. Anyway, I could go on forever about how much I hate that festival but I have other things to do
