Training, adapting, learning
//Training with Tanya to defend themself (the woman declared they are no longer allowed to go on missions) with their blind and deaf spot.//

Sol ignores the sweat dripping down their back, the dirt that’s on them and their clothes from the times they’ve gotten knocked down, focusing on their surroundings. Deep inside a forest, nearby Tanya’s home.
They keep their eyes moving, straining their ears ear to hear any slight snapping of twigs or crunching of leaves.
(They don’t want to admit that it’s harder, with one eye and one ear lost to the explosion, to fully grasp their surroundings, to protect themself from threats. But they must… They’ve always been a terrible liar.)
They yelp when a small bb from a bb-gun smacks into their side, just under their ribs.
“Who is going to try to snipe me?” Snaps back Sol, glaring at her, now that she’s jumped from her perch and is approaching them.
“The people you’ve pissed off by destroying their labs, stealing files, freeing subjects…”
“Okay. I get it.” They mumble. They droop, shoulders slumping and head falling almost to their chest, staring at the forest floor at their feet.
They miss the pained look in Tanya’s eyes as the woman sees this. She reaches out to ruffle the kids hair, or gently rest her hand on their shoulder, but she retracts the hand before she does either.
“Let’s head back to the house.” She says instead. “We’ve been training for hours.”
Sol sighs, following her out of the forest.

Later that night, they sneak out through the window of Tanya’s extra bedroom. Their bedroom now, they think. That’s what she had suggested, it seemed.
They quietly make their way through the grass, head on a near-constant swivel for danger. They had to make do with their limited senses.
They spend the night training, using the gun that has a muffler to practice their once near-perfect aim (they only hit their target about three times out of ten… pathetic).
They climb trees. This makes them realize that their right metal arm might be past salvaging… they’ll talk to Tanya about that later.
They spend this time keeping themself alert, listening to any sounds and looking towards anything noticeable in the forest.
They curse themself when it takes until they’re almost face to face with a stranger, having not noticed anything to suggest their presence. The stranger is deeper in the forest, it’s too dark for them to make out any distinct features. A potentially fatal mistake, as they scowl at the person. “Who’s there?” They call into the forest.
