It was one of those rare times when Ariel visited the surface. She could only do this when either a. she was allowed. Or that b. her father was out and she could sneak past the guards.
She could almost t a s t e the crisp cool air of the surface. The heat of the sun was always a nice change to the always cool and cold water.

Words but a quiet murmur to herself, Ariel could already see the light blue sky. A grin spreading on her red lips. Only a few more inches, she thought to herself. Slender arm reaching out. And at long last, she broke through the surface, hair flipping back to behind her.
The sudden change of brightness making her squint at the sky. It was only midday, and an actually nice day.
