making "burnt Jura" from Yellow Swabian Alb ochre (ferric clay collected at Veringenstadt, southwest Germany from Jurassic limestone rocks). Swipe left to see result of a single and a double burning with a small needle point torch. Explanation: The heat is forcing some of the water molecules bound in the iron oxide crystals to leave the crystal. Thus, the yellow limonite turns more and more into hematite (red). Same process happens with pottery made from the yellow clay.
