March 19, 2019 - White-browed Bush-robin (Tarsiger indicus)
Found in the central and eastern Himalayas, southern China, northern Myanmar, northern Vietnam, and Taiwan, these Old World Flycatchers inhabit mixed broadleaf and conifer forests. They eat insects, foraging mostly on the ground. Breeding from April to July in their Indian range, they build cup-shaped nests in crevices in banks. Females lay clutches of three or four eggs.
February 4, 2018 - Golden Bush-robin (Tarsiger chrysaeus)
These birds in the Old World flycatcher family are found in Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Foraging on the ground or in low shrubs for invertebrates, they sometimes catch their prey in short flights. They build saucer-shaped nests from moss and grass, lining them with hair, wool, or feathers.
March 9, 2017 - Rufous-breasted Bush-robin (Tarsiger hyperythrus)
These bush-robins are found in the central and eastern Himalayas, southern China, and northern Myanmar. They eat insects, foraging mostly on the ground. Little is known about their breeding behavior, though a cup-shaped nest observed in Nepal was built from moss, grass, leaves, ferns, rhizomes, and hair. Both parents were seen bringing food to the chicks.
March 4, 2018 - Himalayan Bluetail, Himalayan Red-flanked Bush-robin, or Orange-flanked Bush-robin (Tarsiger rufilatus)
These Old World flycatchers are considered a subspecies of the Red-flanked Bluetail, but recently some have classified them as a distinct species. They are found in mixed temperate forests along the Himalayas ranging into central China. Their diet is not well known, but is probably primarily insects, as well as fruits and seeds, similar to the Red-flanked Bluetail. Their breeding behaviors are also likely similar to their close relatives, with females incubating their eggs in cup-shaped nests on or near the ground. They do not migrate as far as Red-flanked Bluetails and the Males have brighter blue plumage.
