yeah it can take a lot of forms but one of them is definitely about gaining some perspective on what's going on with you by, for example, watching a movie that both distracts you from your own shit and also reminding yourself that there are things that are bigger than you, which can minimize the current distress
when i used to get depressed much more often about my health and stuff comparing my problems to bigger problems just made me feel worse because i was ashamed for making such a big deal. it might have been because i thought my problems were incurable. it helps that i know being misgendered is temporary
