writing a fantasy world mostly completely removed from our earth because it makes the conflict in the story easier to deal with by giving myself a clean slate to play with the idea of mermaids and magic and aliens and a planet with a second moon that turned out to be a giant space station without having to think about “well how did donald trump’s presidency turn out and how come we didnt blast the aliens out of the sky in 2 seconds flat” and also just bc its. part of the arc of the story
