Our friend and awesome indie bard Azmyl Yunor shared some great tips with us. He was in town for the "So You Wanna be Singer-Songwriter?" workshop, and kept an audience of a dozen performers entertained and enthralled.

During the two-hour long workshop, Azmyl related his own experiences in the industry, how he first got the idea that he could become a performer and starting a band with his friends. Azmyl kept the workshop flowing by asking for the audience’s thoughts on the local indie singer-songwriter scene and their opinions on music in general. He emphasized the importance of being true to yourself in your songs, saying that some highly successful singer-songwriters did not wow a crowd with their singing ability, but with the impact of their lyrics and the feelings they put into singing them. The way a song makes the listener feel is vital to a singer-songwriter, and Azmyl advised them all to analyze their personal favorites to get a greater understanding of the songwriting process. Overall the workshop gave the audience an idea of what they could expect should they wish to try their hands at being a singer-songwriter. 

Azmyl was one of the invited speakers for the Buttercan workshops series. Thank you Think City and LUMA for supporting this effort to build creative community in Butterworth. We're looking forward to doing a lot more cool stuff because Butterworth Also Can!

You guys were a fantastic audience at both our shows last month. Thank you to everyone who came for the Buttercan and SILYMI shows! We will be uploading more pictures and videos soon.

In the meantime, we'll be holding our first mentor session (ever!) in Butterworth on Saturday 4th March. Then on Sunday 5th March, we'll be holding our "Songwriting/ Poetry Intro" class.
