Born in Cape Town, and now living in Manchester, Alex Blaxx is 21 years-old. Buzzin’ Fly’s Ben Watt ran across his music in September 2012 after a tip-off on influential music blog fluxmusic.net and went on to preview one of the tracks on his BBC 6Music 6Mix residency a couple of nights later; it garnered the most texts and tweets for any track played that night. The upshot is Alex’s debut three-track EP on Buzzin' Fly. Simple raw, deep house. In the words of Fluxmusic: ‘The fact of the matter is that some people just understand the creative infrastructure of house music, and exactly how house’s insulated nature holds a crowd together – and it just so happens that Alex Blaxx is one of these people.’ If you want to see Alex play, he often rolls up at Manchester’s ace Drop The Mustard. If you want to hear his tunes, try this EP.
It is no secret that Ben Watt has chosen to close his acclaimed label Buzzin' Fly to new music after ten great years as one of the UK's leading dance independents. But the label has chosen to go out with a bang with one final single. Unearthed from the vaults are two dazzling tracks from cornerstone artists, Rodamaal, and Manoo and Francios A. Rodamaal's ‘Fortune' was originally completed back in 2007 but scheduling problems prevented it from being released at the time. Produced by the Franco-Portuguese trio (Rocco, Darkmountaingroup's Alex Santos and Manoo) it is a stark but emotionally-charged deep-techno masterpiece, that deserves its place alongside their other classics for the label, ‘Musica Feliz' and ‘Insomnia'. On the flip, and originally produced in 2005, is ‘Other Places' a long-lost track by Manoo and Francois A. Full of summer shimmer and heavy bass tones, it was produced by the duo during their heyday at the label, and was a secret favourite of label boss, Ben Watt. Two perfect swansongs. Buzz buzz.

And we've assembled three respected artists and friends in one collaboration - Hamburg's sound innovator Stimming ('Kleine Nachtmusik' on Buzzin' Fly was Track of the Year in iDJ in 2008), label boss Ben Watt, and folk-jazz vocalist Julia Biel (last heard on Watt's own 'Guinea Pig'). The result is 'Bright Star'. Dense, emotional, and already No 2 on the DMC Buzz Chart.
