Buzzmill is now serving food from a vegan-only menu. The restaurant decided to go fully vegan in mid-February. Before the switch, Buzzmill offered options that included both vegan and non-vegan food choices. Now it's vegan all the way. There have been mixed reviews from the public, but for people who follow a vegan diet, they are satisfied with the decision.
Megan Gardner, a San Marcos resident, said she is pretty excited about the menu change.
“It’s really nice that they’re taking that social responsibility and buying products smarter, Gardner said. “I wish more companies would do that, because we have to protect the environment.”
Buzzmill Bartender Emily Morton said the vegan population feels more comfortable going to eat there, now that the animal products are gone.
“They love having a nice safe place to come, where they know there’s no other products being served here, um, they can get it fully knowing that it’s never touched anything else,” Morton said.
The ethos of the restaurant's management is focused on helping the environment and providing healthy alternatives for people who want to try something different.
Buzzmill’s Regional Manager Rocky Moon said they made the switch to provide different food options for the San Marcos area.
“We’re not here to tell people to be vegan. That’s not what we’re trying to do and we won’t ever do that.” Moon said. “We would like to get people to think more about what they’re eating and where they’re getting it from.”
Morton said this menu switch has been in the works for a while.
“It has always been in our ethos that we were going to offer sustainable, um, you know economic footprint reducing um products,” Morton said.
Before adopting the fully vegan menu, Buzzmill bought meat products from the Central Texas Farmers Co-op. In the future the restaurant will continue to buy vegetable products from and make donations to the co-op.
