Buzzmill in downtown San Marcos is a popular coffee shop frequently hosting live music, comedy, and other art related events. Images focus on capturing the outdoorsy and rustic aesthetic that separates Buzzmill from other places around town. The poster is intended to capture to uniqueness of this location.

Opposing forces used in this project are internal and external. The idea is to communicate different perspectives of religion, such as how religious people want outsiders to see them versus how they truly are. Religious people want to be seen as perfectly moral creatures full of kindness, peace, and love. People who could do nothing wrong. Yet on the outside, people see the corruption, violence, and hate they bring.

Crucifix is used as the largest symbol since Christianity and Catholicism are the more popular religions in America, while the Coexist sticker and Star of David necklace include representation of other religions. Money edited into the sticker symbolize the greed and corruption hidden by the Church. Burned looking edges add a subtle hint of darkness to the perceived good. Image in the backgrounds comes from a page of Small Red Boy written and illustrated by Sean Bonnette. I chose this book because the imagery and symbolism further illustrates the concept of my project. This is the truth of religion.

Opposing Forces

The opposing forces I will be working with are internal and external. By taking a more psychological route, the project will illustrate the difference between external appearance and internal struggle. External representing the physical attributes of a person such as gender, body type, clothing, etc. Internal represents the identity and perception of self, how a person thinks, feels, and how they see themselves.

The purpose of this project is to create simplistic forms of animals typically found in a zoo. Animals will be condensed into black and white geometric shapes to display the functions and of the Illustrators shape tools. The animals I will be illustrating are snake, fox, tiger, and owl. I created an hypnotic look by prioritizing the repeating of shapes and lines. Black out eyes and facial features provide the illusion of uniform structures.

The purpose of this project is to create simplistic forms of animals typically found in a zoo. Animals will be condensed into black and white geometric shapes to display the functions and of the Illustrators shape tools. The animals I will be illustrating are snake, fox, tiger, and owl.

For this project, the letters I will use are C and V. I have chosen the serif font Century to represent something organic, and the san serif font Franklin Gothic to represent something man made. C has been used to represent the basic shape of chameleon. The angular top of the letter loosely resembles the head while the tail of the letter was curved as if it was an animal’s tail. Franklin Gothic expresses the basic form of the Flying V guitar, although the instrument’s edges are a bit more rounded. The simplistic form of the letter and the guitar made the two a great match as a san serif typeface and a man made object.

Statement of Intent

For this project, the letters I will use are C and V. I have chosen the serif font Baskerville to represent something organic, and the san serif font Futura to represent something man made. The dainty appearance and light weight of the characters in Baskerville make it better suited to display natural things such as clouds or caves. C will be transformed into an organic object, because the curved stroke and depth of the letter has a more natural appearing shape. Futura outright appears more man made and futuristic, easily representing something scientific and technological. The thin, yet bold and dramatic characters adds energy to the simple V.

The 78666 is a clothing brand created by Ricky Fullen. The brand is full DIY as Ricky designs, makes, and often sells the shirts himself. This is my favorite clothing line because it represents the town I grew up in with a more unique “punk” style. Artwork includes imagery featured around skulls, monsters, and mermaids (the unofficial mascot of San Marcos). As some of the creatures may appear demonic, the artwork is not meant to be anywhere near Satanic. Designs are simple a play on various meanings behind the number 666.
