It’s been a long day and she had been on the way home when she was stopped by the child- the jump in her throat and the race of her heart quickly throwing her into a headache. Judy looks at the boy and pinches the bridge of her nose- she pulls her fingers in a slow drag from between her eyes down to the button of her nose, before releasing the pressure. She folds her arms over her chest- like blocking some invisible emotion from escaping or intruding.
(She assumes because he’s a child that he’s not observant enough to spot the few scars that are exposed when she does this- but she also knows that she can’t assume too much. She twists her arms so that the defense wounds are hidden against her sweater top.)
“Hi, buddy- how can I help you?” She fights the headache tugging on the back of her eyes with a slow sigh that curls her lips into a smile. “Anything I can do? You lost? You don’t look like you’re from Haddonfield, you new?”
