iris's friend, shannon, winds up somewhat jealous of iris due to her ability to read the hearts of dragons, thinking that it means iris must be inherently better than her & so the elder must not care much for her and that staying in the village and caring for the zweilous means she's not destined for greatness like iris. but this, too, is a truth VS ideals thing... this time, im interpreting it as such because i am 90% sure she looks out the window and literally sees reshiram???? LIKE something white and flying definitely goes by but it wasn't super clear what it was and i couldn't pause it fast enough to get a good look. anyways. so although this is what shannon thinks, she has to find out the truth for herself -- the elder does still clearly care for shannon and recognizes her own inherent capabilities and worth. and shannon is a fantastic breeder-in-training in her own right, she clearly knows the zweilous very well, knows their needs and how to care for them, and is the first to realize that something is wrong with hydreigon when it evolves.
speaking of, i think there's some merit to talking about, even though there are a lot of trainers with some sort of special ability in pokéani, it's still made clear that anyone with an open heart and patience can form a close bond with a pokémon partner & understand their feelings and stuff
