“I didn’t say that I was gonna go easy on you, kiddo,” Kali smirked from underneath him, her legs crossed around his neck and pulling his arm in towards her. She wasn’t actually squeezing or pulling hard on him since she wasn’t trying to actually break his arm or anything, but it was fun none the less. “You wanted me to show you a few jiu jitsu moves and so I’m showing you.”

“I’m really glad I met you.”

“You’re such a sap, you know that? It’s just a Gatorade. If you’re gonna be so sentimental about it, I’ll just take it back,” Kali muttered, slightly embarrassed at the compliment. She didn’t do well with them so instead she retreated from them. “So, are you gonna take it or not?”

“Let’s get you to bed.”

Kali sniffled, her stuffed nose swollen and red as she blew into her tissue once again. She felt absolutely miserable. She was ache-y from head to toe, but she was too stubborn to admit it. Kali had managed to drag herself around to her classes (just to keep from getting kicked out) and even tried to train a little before losing her balance and just staying on the floor. The next thing she knew she felt arms around her carrying her somewhere. ‘Let’s get you to bed.’ He had said. “You’re stupid. I was doing just fine,” she sighed, glancing down at the sleeping boy by her bed side, his fingers absent-mindedly brushing along the back of her hand. “So, so stupid.”

“Please, just trust me, just this once.”

She paused mid-step, her back still turned to him. They were on this mission together and, for once, neither of them had their strategist along to plan things ahead. Instead, they sent two emotionally volatile ‘superheros’ to try and sort it out on their own. Kali didn’t want to argue with him -- it wouldn’t be like it was when she fought with Shade on missions -- Ryoji might take her seriously. “I do trust you, actually. So, that’s the easy part,” she said, straightening herself out and slipping her hands into her pockets. Her mind’s eye flashed back to the boy in the rain who had saved her life for no reason whatsoever. Her heart clenched at the memory. “Lead the way, Boom Boom. I’ll follow.”
