As we're waiting for the final episode of Me and Thee, I'm having that (mostly) unfamiliar feeling of looking forward to an episode/not wanting it to be the last episode of a drama.

Honestly, I'm sad that GMMTV seems to have stopped OurSkyy episodes because it feels so final without a chance to see these characters again.

I watched a video about how popular Me and Thee is and I am not going to discount that it is in large part because of the actors and their followings, but I hope people don't miss the memo of writing, writing, writing. (btw, this video didn't. It was discussed significantly - link because it was requested!)

Did I love everything about the stories in this drama? No. But the writing generally was stronger than most other GMMTV dramas and it shows. With one very notable exception, it cared about the character motivations, spent time with their emotional beats, and gave us compelling reasons why all these characters did what they did.

And ultimately where the writing shined was in knowing the drama conventions it was (affectionately) mocking. Those of us who love melodrama were in on the joke and that takes a certain amount of nuance and understanding to convey in the story.

I saw someone say because Pond has been shown to improvise some good moments that they didn't even need a script and my opinion is the exact opposite. If you give a good actor a solid script where they understand the characters - that's why they can live and breathe in them and give us those kinds of moments because they (and we as the audience) know who they are.

#me and thee #me and thee the series #honestly this is not revolutionary writing in terms of plot - I think the language and style is really good but that is lost on me #since I'm watching it subbed #we just need something that cares about the characters and isn't lazy #and honestly where it is weakest is in places where soap opera tends to be weak so at least some of it I chalk up to actually being #by design #and yes Pond as this character is absolutely perfect even with the way it is written someone without the right timing and ability to #demonstrate that vulnerability will not land #the opinion that broadening an audience comes from strong characters and stories not just cute shippable moments is the hill I will die on #do we have a term for this feeling? it's like anticipation and dread all at once #or excitement and grief #all this to say is that I have grown attached and want to see more but am sad it's gonna be over #mdy
