ask-risorgimento-italy replied to your post:Don't get me started with the italians age ugh
Prussia is so young conpared to the others! And yes the colonies are basically babies. Feli is actually 1500 years old but when you add his childhood wih Rome he’s roughly 2000….Prussia is ONLY 400 YEARS OLD. LIKE WHAT DUDE
There are very few situations were a few-hundred-year old things can be called "babies" xD
Actually I would say the character "Prussia" is about 800 years old in total – he just hasn't always been called that.
Here in the 3rd pic/4th page we see Novgorod (Russia) and Teutonic Order (Prussia) in 1242. Starting out as an Order is kinda weird but also kinda accurate historically speaking in this case if we stretch it a bit.
And in the area were Prussia came to be used to live a Baltic people who were called Prussians and spoke a Baltic language that was called Prussian. History texts refer to it as Old Prussia and in Hetalia terms they've most likely been dead for a while…
But if we assume he's only Prussia the Duchy and later Kingdom then yeah, he's only almost 500 years old.
Of course I'm not an expert but that's what it looks like to me.
I was afraid I would make Finland disgustingly old but thanks for lessening my fears :D My headcanon makes Finland about 2400-2000 years old or so… oops. I'm just trying to figure out whether he's older or younger or the same age as the Scandinavian Trio but those log heads were kinda indistinguishable from each other until the Viking Age… =.="""
Prehistoric Scandinavia pisses me off.
Deleted scene from that thing I'm writing
Deleted because Sweden and Poland wouldn’t have been hanging out like this after Cudgel War in Spring 1597
”Now, this place is even more lame,” Poland observed darkly, gazing around the Åbo Castle hall the two Nations and their shared King stood in. Said king seemed equally dismissive of his father’s first seat of power. And while the Castle was a bit drab even by Sweden’s standards, the other Nation was clearly over-reacting.
Sweden ignored both of them and addressed the guard at the door. “Brin’ him in.”
The guard bowed and pulled the door to the hallway open, admitting in a staggering number of people. Two people were holding a small form tightly between them, as if they were expecting for fists to fly while four other guards stood in a wary formation around the three. The figure in the middle was dressed in a dirty linen tunic which was ripped in places and, as far as Sweden could tell, stained with blood. Finland’s hands were tied tightly behind his back and his normally light blond hair was a mess; a large bruise decorated his eye and his lip was still bleeding slowly.
For a moment Sweden wondered just how many people had died in this little rebellion, before realising that Finland had probably been beaten up purely for his personal strength, to keep him subdued. The Finn didn’t look it but Sweden was well aware he could wrestle a bear down and barely break a sweat in the process.
The two guards forced Finland down on his knees on the wood panelled floor. Violet eyes flashed with anger as he glared up at the two Nations stood before him, on either side of the bored King sitting in the lavish throne-like chair. The lesser Nation didn’t seem to care that he was about to be punished.
Poland seemed taken aback by the sight before him but didn’t let it bother him for too long, “So, what do you have, like, to say for yourself?”
Finland’s lips curled in apparent distaste before he spat on the floor, the mixed splatter of spit and blood causing Poland to skid backwards. “I have no need to explain myself to the likes of you,” the beaten Nation rasped coldly, “I simply did what was right for my people.”
“‘Your people’?” Poland hissed, stalking forward and grapping a firm, punishing hold of Finland’s fair hair. “You’re merely a vassal of no consequence and your first concern should always be for your Monarch and Governing Nation! Useless backwater – lesser – Nations like you have no say and no right to rebel! You’re merely Sweden’s lapdog, nothing more!”
The way Poland loomed over Finland, snarling, made him seem like a completely different person and it reminded Sweden poignantly that the Pole ruled over one of the largest empires in Europe, only beaten out by the Ottoman Empire, Tsardom of Muscovy – neither of who was actually European – and the chaotic mess that made up the Holy Roman Empire. One could never quite tell what was going on among the main branch of Germanics.
Sweden watched in silence the battle of wills between the two, green clashing with violet, pale and carefully treated against beaten and bruised, before Poland threw Finland aside in disgust, causing the shorter Nation to slam into the floor with a painful thunk.
"Sweden," Sigismund remarked dismissively from the throne-like chair where he had sat through the whole confrontation. "Make sure to control your lapdog better in the future. And tell that to my Uncle as well."
Sweden felt his neck hairs bristle in anger as his hands curled into fists, his nails digging painfully into his palms. He felt anger and hate and annoyance but he bend under the orders.
"Javisst, Eders Majestät," Sweden murmured with a bow.
Finland’s eyes seemed to scream betrayal.
***************
Javisst, Eders Majestät (Swe.): Of course, Your Majesty
Cudgel War, 1596-1597, was a rebellion by Finnish farmers who were protesting against the unfair drafting, high taxes and being forced to provide for soldiers during peace time after 25 years of war against Novgorod.
These were being implemented by the Stadtholder of Finland Klaus Fleming, who was supported by local nobles and soldiers. He was loyal to King Sigismund (who was also the King of Poland) and who was a somewhat undesirable King to Sweden because he was Catholic and not really interested in these northern lands. His Uncle, Duke Charles (later Charles IX of Sweden) used Finns in trying to weaken Fleming because he wanted to be the King and keep Sweden Lutheran.
About 3000-4000 farmers were killed during the conflict and in 1599 about 40 Finnish nobles were executed on Charles’s orders for supporting both Fleming and Sigismund.
So basically Finns were screwed over by both sides.
historical fact for you: Alexander slept with a fuckton of women during the congress of Vienna, he hated aristocrats though so he fucked the citizens instead. Also his wife also did the do with everyone except him. Alexander was a rude asshole tbh
O.O Oh my. The wooing doesn’t surprise me but the rudeness kinda does. I can maybe do things with that oh yes
Thank you, Natsu <3 Did you have fun in Venice?
Man, I was hoping to visit Riddarholmskyrkan next week in Stockholm but nooooooo, it's closed :<
I'll just need to visit more Palace museums then >.>

Where. Do. You. Just. Find. Spells. Like. That. Your Finnish and Swedish sound so beautiful! And I love your English too! I need to do mine…
Awws, thanks <3 Archaic Finnish is kinda tricky and I didn't even read it at the right tempo :P And Swedish will always be tricky, some pronunciations are so weird! Same with English pronunciation actually; I can write just fine and then when I need to speak, it's a bit of a stumble xD
The spell's from Suomen kansan muinaisia loitsurunoja (The Ancient Spell Runes of Finnish People) – which is almost 400 pages! – compiled by Elias Lönnrot (the Kalevala dude) and published in 1880, you can read it here. It's all in Finnish tho' :D This particular spell is on page 39 2. Helvettiin (To Hell). It's a curse actually and I didn't even read it in it's entirety :D I searched for it in the first place just to have Finland curse at Sweden in my fic anyway…
There're spells for healing and luck and threats and curses and some that are more like prayers and stories and I really should read through it properly.
Can't wait for yours!

Oh the SuFin shippers will come. They will come. But it'll be alright. Granted, it was a small snippet, but I didn't find it boring at all! But if you think it could be boring, you could research more actiony events? Even so, it's your story.
Write what you want! I think your story will be the perfect introduction to Finnish history, and (aside from the fact that I don't think it's small and insignificant at all) it's all how you present it! Believe in what you write. :)
SuFin shippers won't like me \(*w*)/ That's actually part of the reason I decided to not have any pairings at all, the other being I don't ship SuFin and wouldn't be able to write it.
Haha, I called it potentially boring because there isn't that much actiony stuff in the 19th century (except the Crimean War and assisting in some Russian conflicts…) I'll be writing a lot about politics and the tensions they create and I just hope I can pull it off in an interesting way :) 20th century will probably have too much action all things considered… Of course if it gets too boring for me to even write, I'll visit other characters and see what's going on elsewhere xD
Pfft, this fic is literally going to be Finnish Upper Secondary School, History 3 course, The turning points of Finnish history. Plus some flashbacks because background information :D And maybe also kinda introduction to Finnish culture too.
