Watching the inauguration now and Trump looks so salty, maybe he's now realizing he dun fucked up.
I got the feels and put this together before hittin the hay.
What an amazing #FarewellSpeech by #Obama 👏🏼👏🏼 Forever #MyPresident 🇺🇸, he's the #GOAT. So sad to see them go 😪 _ _ #PresidentObama #ByeObama #FarewellObama #FarewellAddress #GreatestPresidentEver #MicheleObama #GodBlessAmerica #USA #FuckTrump #DeadStockSpot 💀 (at DEAD STOCK)
What a strange world
I just have to get this of my chest.
So, I was watching a little video called “The Evolution of Barack Obama” edited by the talented Nathan Zed and shed a little tear. Why was I getting so emotional watching a tribute to the 44th president of the United States, when I don’t even live in the US and didn’t even notice all his actions and its effects on our world?
Maybe because I have always been a fan of Obama. In my opinion he is an amazing person, a role model and a huge inspiration with a great sense of humor. Sure, that could be the reason, why I am sad, that he is no longer the president of the US. But presidents come and go. That what democracy is all about: change, the discussion of different opinions, letting the people decide, who should be the leader of their country. And if the people of the nation demand change, the country must change. Simple as that, right? Don’t get me wrong. I am a huge fan of democracy. It is one of the biggest things humanity can be proud of.
However, I think the real reason for my reaction was the sudden realization, that Obama leaving office and Trump becoming the 45th President of the United States shows how much the world has changed over the past few years. I’m probably not the most qualified person to talk about this, because my opinions are the ones of a 21-year-old German girl, that doesn’t understand everything about politics, etc., but I don’t care anymore. I can’t remain silent and expect the world to change by itself.
I still remember the time Obama won the election and became president in 2008. We talked about it in our politics class and, of course, in our English class. The first black president. Back then I wasn’t able to understand, what that really meant. How much of an impact Obama winning the presidency really had. But even my 13-year-old self could understand, that Obama symbolized “hope” for so many people. Not just hope but a positive change, an interesting and bright future, overcoming differences, which is beautifully represented in Nathan’s video. Of course, I understand, that not everybody felt the same and some people might have been scared, when he was elected. However, a lot of people put their hopes on Obama and now his presidency is over.
But what comes next? That is the big question that nobody can answer and nobody wants to answer. I don’t want to start a huge discussion on Trump, that is a topic for another day, but I think that Trump winning the election stands for the strange change we see in the world right now. It would be wrong to point at Trump and blame him for everything, that went wrong. Him winning just show the big emotion, that effects a lot of elections and decisions at the moment; fear. Yes, fear. It seems everybody is scared and nobody knows what we are all so scared of. However, every time you read the news, there is a new reason to be scared. Terrorist attacks, war, people flee from war, another terrorist attack, more refugees. A terrible war is going on in the east, leaving so many children without parents, families without a home. And what is the “Western World” concerned about? How are we going to afford this? Who is going to pay for all the refugees? Will our economy survive all this? Another reason to be scared. And if there is one thing, people are constantly concerned about, it’s money.
Who is responsible for all this? Surely not the people of our country. And who always had to be the scapegoat for everything that went wrong? People, who are “different”, because they simply don’t belong to us, right? And like always, we will realize in a few years, that we have been wrong. Immigrants, foreigners, people with a different, people of a different skin colour aren’t different. In fact, we always forget the fact, that makes us all equal; We are all humans. Our fear and our lack of empathy reflects in a lot of elections. In Germany the AfD, a right party with awful points of views, gains a lot of votes, the UK would rather leave the EU (which is, in my opinion, one of the best things, Europeans have ever created) than standing together as a united Europe in times of crisis, and in the US a person like Trump is elected president. Most countries rather “nope” out of a situation and live isolated in their little bubble, than face the current conflicts in our world.
What I am trying to say with this little emotional rant?
First of all, it is SO important to vote. It is simply not true, that a single vote won’t make a difference. In a democracy, EVERY vote counts and every voice is heard. There is no excuse, not to vote. Sacrifice those few hours of your life.
Secondly, don’t just accept everything. Share your opinions with other people, protest, write a stupid blog post on tumblr, make a statement during your award acceptance speech (amazing Meryl!). Don’t let someone silence your opinion. The exchange of opinions is the spine of a working democracy.
Thirdly, research. Always educate yourself. Nothing is as strong as an argument you can prove to be wrong and nothing is as ridiculous as “name calling” without thinking about other people’s statements.
And the most important thing, show empathy. We are all human. Everybody deserves a change for a safe life, a bright future, and peace. Dividing the world in good and evil, worthy and not worthy, superior and inferior is not the answer.
“We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.” - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
There has been a lot of misinformation about both getting out of the so-called Iran deal and getting into a new North Korean agreement. The two situations may be connected, but not in the way we are usually told.
About time. Fire those lady ass government workers while you are at it as well. #redtape @Regranned from @zachorama - 💥Got rid of all the stupid crap obama did and the economy comes roaring back... bye obama!😂😂😂👊🇺🇸💪💥 #byeobama #legacybyebye #whatlegacy😂 #GoTrump #AmericaFirst #KeepFighting #WeStandWithTrump #Repost #RealNews #WethePeople #45 #PresidentTrump #Trump #Military #2A #Veterans #Vets #DealWithIt #PresidentTrump #Winning #MyPresident #Merica #Trump #TrumpFamily #TrumpTrain #USA #MAGA 🇺🇸 💥 🚨Follow my partners: @daliadollyf @deplorablequeenb - #regrann
