Bhubaneswar: Leaders and workers of the three main wings of the BJD on Friday greeted party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the Cabinet approval for making 50 per cent reservation for women in the District Planning Commission (DPCs).
The government recently approved amendment to the Odisha District Planning Committee Act, 1998, that would enable 50 percent reservation for women among elected members in the DPCs.
The party leaders garlanded the BJD chief on the occasion and thanked him for taking such historic decision.
Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BJYD) President, Sanjay Das Burma; BJD’s women wing president Pramila Mallick and BCJD president Byomkesh Ray represented one thousand party members. Leaders lauded Odisha cabinet for approving 50 percent reservation for women in DCPs.
Earlier, the BJD government in the state under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik has taken another step towards women empowerment by allowing 33 percent and 50 percent reservation for women in panchyat elections and municipal elections, respectively.
BJYD President, Sanjay Das Burma said the BJD government has been taking many measures for women empowerment in the state. In order to empower women economically, Naveen Patnaik has started Self-Help Group schemes.
Among others, Minister Snehangini Chhuria, MLA Pranab Balabantray, BYJD general secretary and spokesperson Bijay Nayak, Dhruba Sahu, Babu Singh, Sarala Swain, Bharati Singh, Sanjukta Samal, Sandhyarani Biswal, Chinmay Sahu, Jagannath Das, Ipsita Sahoo, Rajkamal Jena were present. Many corporators too joined the procession.
