So. How do we feel about DataKrash 2.0? and a deadly alliance of sorts between Maelstrom where Royce is the leader and the Dogtown VDBs?

Just a teensy little Bylerpunk ficlet inspired by a tag convo with @renna-the-witch
The sky across the Coronado Bay faded from midnight blues to hazier shades of pink, orange and gold. Mike and Will are sitting at the very end of the Pacifica Pier, cheap syn-coffees from Capitan Caliente and Burrito XL's for breakfast after a gig stealing some tech and data from a Voodoo Boys nest out near the stadium still feels like a dream.
There's a comfortable silence between them as Will looks out onto the bay.
"You nervous about tomorrow?" He asks, taking a bite out of his burrito.
"Nah. Not to sound cocky or anything but we've been planning this for months, right down to the last minute detail. It's perfect, choom. Don't worry, we got this in the fuckin' bag." Mike leans in a little closer, his shoulder bumping Will's, which draws out a small smile.
"And if we don't. We're gonna have a hell of a lotta fun fucking with Barghest on the way out." Mike teases, then takes a bite of his own burrito and a sip of his coffee.
" And that's all our eddies down the drain. They're a militia, Mike. Any wrong moves and they'll zero us with all that expensive hardware we failed to klep without so much as flinching. Then so much for the major leagues." He's only half serious, but the risk still lingers in Will's thoughts for a moment.
Mike stares for a moment, a soft expression on his face as he nods in brief understanding, then with the same slight overconfidence he counters with:
"So we fight guerrilla warfare with guerilla warfare. It's not the first time we've had to play dirty with a bunch of jarhead gonks. Won't even be the last. It'll make a hell of a story." He suggests with a chuckle and a shrug, then Will rolls his eyes and laughs -
"You're fuckin' crazy, you know that?."
"Well I guess we're both crazy together then, 'cause I know deep down in there you're just as excited about this heist as I am." Both of them share a smile as warm as the Pacifica sunrise in front of them as Mike puts his arm around Will's shoulder and pulls him into his side. Will puts his arm around Mike's waist and his head on his shoulder.
"Geez, haven't heard that in a while." He's not exactly denying it and there's an all too familiar comfort in those two words. Both find themselves wistfully reminiscing for a moment before the conversation shifts and Mike's fingers are idly playing with the hair at the nape of Will's neck.
But with it also comes something of a confession from Mike as he glances down at Will then out at the Vista Del Rey skyline over on the horizon.
"Honestly, I kind of never really thought we'd ever get here. Not here in NC, obviously I knew you'd always come back here. I mean us... If that makes sense." This time it's Will's confidence that brings a soft grin to his face.
"I did. You were right. I think you and I have been you and I for so long now that I guess I always figured we'd find our way back eventually."
"Yeah?" As he gives his partner a kiss on the top of his head, Will nods and smiles as he replies softly.
"Yeah."
The pair of them share the stillness, calmness of enjoying the sun rising over their city of dreams for a little while longer before Will lets go and helps Mike to his feet.
As they walk back to Will's Quadra Type-66 hand in hand, Will asks.
"So, uh. What do you say tonight we bust into Silver Pixel Cloud, watch a little Bushido X?. Get some kibble, maybe a little Tequila, the whole nine yards." As Mike opens the passenger side door, he stops for a moment, smirks as he answers -
"Sounds like a plan. It's a date." Will just nods and gets in the car, finding it hard to wipe the lopsided grin off his face, meanwhile Mike is in thought for a second.
Crazy together... Always.
He chuckles to himself and sits in the passenger seat, occasionally finding himself stealing glances and pondering.
They drive out towards the SoCal border sharing a comfortable silence as Mike takes out his agent and starts to type.
The day begins anew in the City of Dreams, our intrepid paladin and his sorcerer scour the arid wastes in search of the dungeon marked with the numbers one-zero-one.
