Hi to our new followers and friends connected at the recent holiday events. I’m constantly learning to feel comfortable and take ownership of the work that I put out and here I am - without a mask 😅 Hi, I’m Shawna! I’m an immigrant and have been living as an alien on Ohlone land since 2005. Bloody Girl Gang started after I left a FT job teaching color & design where I was marginalized. Art has been a passion ever since I was child watching cartoons on Sunday mornings and I dreamt to have my name on IMBD - have also said that to an USCIS customs officer when I first arrived. I’ve a BFA and MFA in STEM - Character Animation from the same institution that marginalized my status as a woc and immigrant. I worked as a model, coordinator, evening receptionist, tutor and also held a work scholar position while I was a student there on a scholarship. I had lost work opportunities not due to my portfolio but when companies found out they needed to sponsor my work visa - it impacted my creative confidence. The VP of the same institution had also called me on my personal phone telling me I should go home and that Americans need my job more than I do. I was bloody broken and felt very unwelcomed in this country of immigrants.
