@heroicissm gets another AU starter
It was common for royal families to betroth their children, even at birth, but for Angel’s Garfield’s fathers they both knew it was more out of necessity. Garfield had come out of his mother green, and Angel was the product of the King’s affair. Royal still of course, the two were betrothed the moment that Angel was born and her father knew that his wife, the queen, wanted to help to take care of her. Because of so many stillbirths and miscarriages, they only had the one son together and the queen had desperately wanted a girl, so maybe part of her wasn’t so mad about the affair with one of her ladies in waiting bringing her a girl she could help to raise.
Even having met in the past, Angel and Garfield were much, much younger, and were separated when those older years started to set in. Going through puberty in their own respective kingdoms, learning what would be needed of them to be wed. Having known him and considered him someone she could trust, Angel didn’t mind having to meet him again this decade later, but a bandit had other ideas as the carriages rode through, stopping just in time for the Kings and the prince to watch her expertly cut the men down with her sword. Not the most lady like, of course, but she walked toward the carriage and saw her father first, but then saw Garfield and his parents as her father had met them at the border.
“Sorry you had to see that,” Angel told him with a little drop of her head to look at the ground. Skilled in combat or not, she knew when to act like a princess and she had overstepped--her father’s face showed that quite obviously right now. “Are you all right, your highness?” she asked Garfield, glancing up only to catch those green eyes of his.
He had changed so much and yet his eyes were still as beautiful as always.
