Juliet needed air. She needed space to think for just a moment. The meeting went on far longer than she’d anticipated with difficulties in nearly every level of the plan. This was a disaster, and she didn’t know how to fix it. When her private life was going worse than her life in court, there was something wrong with the world. Feeling eyes upon her, Juliet squinted down the alley. “Hello? Is someone there?” She was unarmed in the traditional sense, but she could fight back if needed. Yet fear was not her first reaction. Instead the desire for a life unlike the one she’d been groomed for was all that she could think of. It was utterly unfair that she’d worked all her life. The rewards might be worth it, but there were sycophants who thrived on riding coattails. She should walk back into the building and fire them all.
