the last few days had been a rollercoaster of emotions for bryce. the feelings were both overwhelming yet relieving, as he prepped to being back home with the people he loves most, ryan included. it was good to be home - or at least, be back in the states. after he suddenly bumped into his ex-girlfriend and finished dropping off all of his belongings to york’s, bryce made his way onto the academic side of campus to search for the blonde. he didn’t get the chance to speak to ryan as often as he would have liked over the last few months, but he still spoke to her enough to know this would normally be the time class would end for her. 

still dressed in his military gear as he didn’t have the time to change, he made his way over to the academic side of campus. it didn’t take long for dark eyes to spot the blonde, sitting at one of the picnic tables in front of the library, eyes fixated on her computer screen. while she looked exactly the way she did four months ago, there was something different about her. her expression was serious, sad almost. he pulled out his phone and sent her a quick text. i’d bet money that you’re looking at a shirtless liam hemsworth pic instead of studying right now, he quickly typed, a smirk teasing his lips as he waited for her to read the message. before she could question it, he typed once more, i’m much better than wanna be thor. look up :)

it wasn’t the smartest idea she’d ever had, but it would be a stretch to call any of her ideas smart. when asked, she’d blame it on the ecstasy, but she could never pass on the opportunity to show off. he handed her the knife and she spread her fingers across the table, moving the knife in between each finger. she’d seen kids do it with pencils in elementary school, and she’d practice by herself in the comfort of her room. she picked up the pace, proud she was executing the skill perfectly. she got too confident, looking up and meeting his eyes, smirking. it didn’t take long before she misjudged and accidentally stabbed her hand. a simple “oh, i think i need to go to the hospital,” was all she said before leaving and heading to the emergency room. someone was nice enough to give her a ride, but she was entranced by the knife still in her hand. 

sitting on the hospital bed, her legs were swinging as they hung off of it. she didn’t even recognize ryan at first, not expecting to see him here. “doc, i’m dying.” lifting up her wounded hand. “i need stiches and anesthesia asap. i sure hope you don’t have any beef with any of the other doctors because i don’t want you guys to be gossiping as you’re patching me up like they do in grey’s anatomy.” her words were rather calm, but she’d had her fair share of injuries throughout the years. there was no recognition there either, too caught up in her current state of being.

Thinking was never a good past time – sober or not – and definitely more unhealthy for him sober because it always lead to one thing. He needed a hit; a distraction; something to consume his thoughts rather than letting himself just be devoured by them entirely. There was a passing thought, one flicker of an inquiry that made him pause as he hovered in front of the principal’s door, eyes nervously looking left and right to make sure no one was around to catch him. Maybe this was the point where he should realize something? Some rubicon not to be crossed? But he couldn’t see the ending point.

Confident enough that there was no one around, he turned the knob and walked in, walking straight to every drawer and closet he could find to start rummaging for the pills he heard the principal confiscated from a group of druggies yesterday. His lips quirked up into a smile when he opened the last drawer, finally finding the small bag holding two yellow bottles filled up to the brim with multi-colored pills. A more than relieved sigh escaped him as he popped open one of the bottles, just about ready to throw one in his mouth when the door opened and he turned around to gawk at who it was.
