I have decided that the very most best part about being a professional writer is that I can, whenever I want, pack up a lunch and go to the park to enjoy this wonderful weather.
What is all y'all's favourite part about your job?
And if any of all y'all want to join me for a picnic this afternoon, let me know so I can pack extra.
The night had been more than anything Vivienne had hoped it would be. After so much worry and anxiety over the last few months, things had finally felt like they were getting somewhat normal again. From that thought she couldn’t shake the giddiness she felt, gripping the key that was now around her neck as she made her way back to the party. Looking over her shoulder, she watched Weston make his way through the other side of the crowd, curious but trusting him nonetheless. After tonight she would be moving in with the man of her dreams, and she was excited for what this next adventure held for them. She was also curious to see how Felix and Winston would get along now that they would be living together. This brought a laugh to her lips as she shook her head at the thought.
These ideas, as well as starting to figure out how this move could go the easiest, danced around her head as she made her way back into the crowd. The blonde had grabbed herself another drink and began chatting with those at the party once again. They could tell something was different about the doctor but she just said things were looking up, not wanting to jinx anything until they’d actually started the move. It was then that she heard the mic begin to go off, turning her head to see what the announcements were.
Watching Ivy on stage, she also began searching the crowd for Weston, finding him about 30 yards away on the other side of the crowd. She waved happily towards him before adverting her eyes back to what was being said. Viv was happy to hear that they had raised so much money for the missing, and hoped that it would go to good use in finding them. Everyone else seemed pleased, and a wave of relief hit the crowd as it felt they were all closer to finding those they cared for. As Ivy began reading off who’d won in all of the categories, visible astonishment appeared on the woman’s features as she heard her name being called. It hit her then that everyone was clapping because her and Weston had won cutest couple. Her cheeks began to flush behind her mask as she looked over to him once again. She flashed him an excited grin before looking at everyone who was cheering for them and waved towards them.
When Zeus appeared, she could hear gasps coming across the crowd- including one passing through her own lips as he began speaking. He emotions were a mixture of awe and confusion, but when Weston was called forward she instantly began verbally protesting. Those around her held her back as she began screaming for Weston, trying to push past those who held her back for her own safety as she tried to go towards him.
The electricity that crackled through the air as the direct pulse hit Weston sent the wind right out of Vivienne’s lungs. There was a barely audible crash through her stunned state as the drink that she held in her hands slipped from her fingers and shattered on the floor below her. She was thankful in that moment that someone had been holding her back because her feet felt as though they had given out. Eventually, after the initial shock, she used her demi-god strength and psychokinetic powers to send a blast that freed her from the crowd’s grasp. She rushed to Weston’s side, not daring to be cautious or care that Zeus was only mere feet away from her. Falling to her knees next to him, tears began streaming down her cheeks as she watched the light leave his eyes. She could hear Zeus talking beside her, but his words fell on deaf ears as she couldn’t see past the anger and despair she felt. Her eyes stared daggers at him with malice fully behind them before her eyes fell back to Weston, the man she loved that was now gone.
“N-no, no no no no,” she protested through choked sobs as she cupped his face in her hands, already feeling the warmth leave his body as she did so. “Please don’t go- please don’t leave me,” she cried, willing with everything inside her that this was all a bad dream- that she would wake up and things would be normal. The key he’d given her just moments earlier felt cold on her skin as it dangled from her neck as she cried by his side. She placed a gentle hand where the blast had struck him, her medical brain trying desperately to figure out how to save him from this- but the back of her mind she knew that he was already gone.
Feeling a hand grace her shoulder, she looked up from her despair to see Weston’s mother- his real mother- standing beside her. She could see the understanding and pain in Nyx’s eyes that must have reflected her own as Nyx began speaking to her. At Nyx’s request for Viv to take care of his body, all she could do was nod, scared that words would betray her with the tears that now poured freely down her cheeks. She gave one final look at Nyx before turning her attention back to Weston. She took his hand in hers, squeezing it tightly as she placed her head against his chest- and sobbed. Sobbed for the man she’d just lost, the life they’d just started to rebuild together, and the future they would never have now.
> WHAT: Heading out to the Seaside Motel and wondering where her life went fucking wrong lol
> WHEN: Friday, 5 July
It had been a long week, and on the 4th of July, the Mayor suspended her from work. Thinking about it instantly made Aidan furious. She never thought it would happen to her, not with how seriously she took her job, but she broke in front of the Mayor of all people. Admittedly, she did look insane. She broke then regretted it, realized where it was going, and hearing Covington’s name made her backtrack quickly. It made her also realize that she had no one she trusted to disclose any sort of information about herself to. She couldn’t break. She wasn’t allowed to. Aidan tugged her hood forward over her face and shoved her hands into the pockets of her navy blue jacket as she walked. It had been a hell of a second day of her suspension. She didn’t know what to do with all of that free time besides study, workout, and think. There was definitely no stopping the latter.
What made it all even worse is that the only person she would tell about the suspension would blame it on herself. She would tell the truth at some point. But first she had to make Daya see she had things under control again, start thinking of it as a good thing. Accepting the job Olivia Quinn gave her granted her the motivation to not lose her grip.
When she spotted the glow of the Seaside Motel sign, Aidan rubbed the bridge of her nose. Right, the Quinn job. It seemed unreal. She was a little scared, to say the least. It was high risk, and if Olivia was right about her suspicions, then the truth would really shake up her loyalty to the NEPD. But it was also high pay, and she wanted justice where justice was due.
All the same, it was just another thing she had to keep to herself.
At the moment, two things were for sure: 1), she wanted to be with Daya, more than anything, and 2) she needed to feel in control. It had been almost too long since she had done a scene and if she had any luck on her side, getting that rush would be what she needed to deal with all the bullshit. And being in Daya’s presence or even just getting a text from her gave her a much needed glimpse at what was good in this world. Aidan found herself thinking about her a lot more often than what she knew was normal.
She could dissect that at another time. Selfishly, she went after the woman she was craving. She felt like a normal human being with her. Even if she was paying for it tonight.
Aidan patted the front of her black slacks, double checking to make sure she left her phone at home and all she had was her wallet. Her shoulders rose and fell as she let out a frustrated sigh just before pausing outside of the motel. Everything was so complicated. What was the right thing to do, for literally every situation she was in?
Did everything with her submissive fuck her up so much that she didn’t know what the right thing was anymore? Or did she never actually know?
With a quick glance over her shoulder to make sure one of her colleagues weren’t patrolling the area at the moment, she headed up to the room. Her heart hammered in her chest.
She left her thoughts and worries at the doorstep. Inside would be another world, one she could control and take care of the person she was responsible for. Daya would be her world for the next hour, and she would treat her as such. Aidan smiled to herself, more than willing to leave everything else behind, and knocked on the door.
With June ending today, it’s time for a mid-year check-in.
