There was a bit of an 'oopsie' during Angel's first serious relationship that started at the tail end of his last year of high school. When Nikki - Ada's birth mother - said she was going to have the kid but intended to put it up for adoption, Angel instantly volunteered to take the kid. Nikki told him that she in no way wanted to be peer pressured into being a mom (or marrying him, for that matter), which Angel assured her definitely wasn't what he was aiming for. They went through a load of paperwork to ensure Nikki's parental rights were transferred completely to Angel in the adoption process, freeing her from any of those 'obligations' she desperately wanted to avoid. Nikki and Angel did split up during this time, but it amicable - easier to facilitate not having to be a mom when you're no longer dating the father of the child you were birthing, after all. Ada has...not been the easiest kid to raise, with a massive rebellious streak and a smart mouth, and Angel is sure he's already acquired several grey hairs from wrangling her at all hours. But he definitely doesn't regret having her.

Home visits weren’t usually part of Bill’s job description. No, usually, his constituents came to him with their woes, Bill did what he could to fix them (when it suited him), and that was that. It wasn’t completely out of the norm, but it was unusual enough that he felt a bit strange showing up at Adalet’s doorstep. Or maybe, it was simply because of the potential damage to his reputation if he was seen there. 

The thing was, though, Bill didn’t believe the rumours about the death of her beloved one jot. He knew killers - he was one, after all - and Adalet didn’t fit the profile. If she had done him in, she was a master of concealment, and Bill wanted her on his team. Sadly, he doubted the likelihood of either occurring. 

Still, that didn’t mean she couldn’t be useful. 

“Ms Kartal,” his tone was pleasant as he stood to greet her with all the proprietary of a gentleman greeting a lady. “I hope you don’t mind the unexpected intrusion. Unfortunately, I am here on business.”

Sitting on the library steps despite the lore that came along with doing so before you were a senior, Ingrid was smoking a cigarette and trying to reread a passage of Sanditon that she had already memorized by heart as a child. It was merely performative, this act of work, going through the motions as she smoked a cigarette, dressed in all black like she was prepared for a fashion shoot or a funeral. The grim reaper of girls, slip dress falling past her ankles, exposed collarbones making her shiver in the changing September weather. She felt like she was wearing someone else’s skin whenever she wore something she had taken from Katherine, borrowed clothes she had always claimed she would return dry-cleaned but never made it back to the other girl’s closet. Recognizing someone she knew retreating down the library steps, she reached a hand out, grasping onto Ada’s ankle like a child impersonating a shark attack in a pool, flashing her teeth at her as she looked up. “Thought I saw you. Apologies,” she stated, drawling the word out in a fake transatlantic accent. “Let me read something to you? We’re supposed to do a dramatic reenactment of our favorite scene from the book. As if we’re twelve,” she explained to the girl, holding the title up for her to see. @adaliddel​

Desceu as escadas da entrada do prédio e foi até a calçada, sorrindo ao que se aproximava de Ada perto de sua moto. --- Eu pensei em colocar o biquíni, mas está frio demais pra isso. --- riu baixo, aproximando-se para conseguir dar um abraço nela.

With a slam of the door the last patient left the building. They'd lit the gas lamps an hour ago and outside the city'd sank into darkness with the exception of balls of light set at intervals. For once her apron was unstained with blood and instead of the smell of iron, sweat was what clung to her clothes.

Even still, the work had to be done. Ada collected her tools to be cleaned and prepped for the next day. It was monotonous work which would have been simple were it not for the exhaustion already plaguing the nurse's mind.

So tired was she that not even a knock could send her from her thoughts. Not until the second pounding did she look up. "The doctor's gone already," she wiped her hands on her apron as she walked to the door.

"The doctor's left for the evening, you'll have to wait 'til the morning," she repeated as she pulled the door open.
