“Come and have a drink with me, love?” Leo questioned, looking over at her. Before glancing at the clock. “I mean it is check out time.” He stated, looking over at her once again.

Love your job and you’ll never work another day in your life.
That was the saying, right?
Marcus had joined the FDNY over 6 years ago, right out of college. He had gotten a degree to make his parents happy, with a major in Poli. Sci. that he would never use a day in his life, but then had immediately begun to pursue a career that he knew would give his life true fulfillment. Firefighting. With EMT training to boot, Marcus wanted to be a man that could make a difference. He wanted to be someone that tried to better a shitty situation, whether that be putting out a structure fire, helping a cat out of a tree, convincing someone into rehab after arriving on the scene of an OD, or whatever else he could do.
He knew that all he wanted was to make a real change. So, he never worked a day in his life. He just lived it. More than half of his nights were spent trying to catch a wink or two in the dorms of the firehouse between calls, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. Frankly, being single as he was, there was no real reason for him to spend much time at home outside of seeing his cat.
Now, he was taking a short lunch break which usually consisted of him warming up something in the firehouse’s microwave, but it was a Wednesday. Wednesdays meant that his favorite food truck was in Central Park and that was not something he was willing to miss. Still dressed in his usual department-given t-shirt, Marcus was taking his usual route through the park when he caught the glimpse of a situation out of the corner of his eye.
Pausing along the edge of the sidewalk, Marcus watched as a young woman with dark hair, most likely around his age, reached up towards the branches of a tree. Her expression alerted him to the fact that she was in obvious distress which was what had caught his eye to begin with. Without further consideration, Marcus began to head her way, weaving to avoid the park-goers that were laid out on blankets in the grass. As he got closer, he could finally see what, or who, the woman was reaching for. His eyes widened and he picked up the pace as he spotted the young child clinging to one of the branches.
Coming up behind the young woman, he heard her pleading with the child to scoot back down the branch or to let go so that she could catch her. Her voice was strained, sounding like she was just holding back the panic she obviously was feeling. “Excuse me, ma’am. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to get involved, but I saw what was going on and... do you need help? Will you let me help?” He asked, keeping his tone as low and steady as possible. He didn’t want to startle the woman, nor did he want to draw unnecessary attention to the situation and inadvertently embarrass the woman, who he assumed to simply be a younger mother with an adventurous child.

“¿Qué pasó? ¿Qué pasó?” sus palabras salieron atropelladamente de su boca antes de escuchar a la otra persona. El auto que la había golpeado la había desconcertado por completo. No había sido algo muy grave, apenas la había empujado unos metros y ahora se encontraba en el suelo. Pero su cabeza dolía, al igual que su pierna, y todo parecía darle vueltas.
Serendipity? | Dylan & Bianca
Bianca Navarre contacted her. Bianca Navarre contacted her...
Either Dylan was the luckiest submissive in Verona, or something bad was up. Was this a test from Celeste? Was Navarre onto her? Was someone spying on her texts? Did the Montagues know something? Did they know everything...?
Dylan didn’t have any of the answers to those questions, but she intended to find out. That would prove to be tricky -- it wasn’t like she could just ask Bianca. After all, if she did just get lucky, she didn’t want to blow her cover by asking suspicious questions.
She arrived at the Priory at 7 PM as instructed, her hands pocketed in a hoodie as she waited for any sign of the Dominant. If Madam Celeste thought this Domme wasn’t to be trifled with, then she knew not to expect a pushover.

{flashback — 6/2/17}
Tommy’s brows furrowed as he expanded the map, the holographic blueprints of New York City stretching across the room. He reached up to adjust his glasses while Kat stepped forward.
“That can’t be right...” she said, flicking her fingers to zoom further still. The underground structure of the metro and sewage system filled the screen, and her eyes immediately began tracing the tunnels. “Level two can be anywhere from thirty to two-hundred feet below ground, but these...”
“It’s a pattern,” Tommy confirmed, pointing at the seven flashing red lights. Landing on the last one, he nodded. “It starts there and travels all the way around to...” he traced the line with his finger. “Here.”
“It’s all sewage,” Katherine placed her hands on her hips, concern etched across her face. “Do you think Devone could be behind all this?”
“I think it’s a possibility,” he turned to face her, face remaining stoic. “Seven disturbances in two weeks reeks of no good. I think it’s worth checking out.”
“Me too,” Katherine agreed. “I’ll call Eurydice and Bianca. There’s no use in disrupting the twin’s and Sawyer’s vacation until we know what we’re dealing with.”
Tommy’s brows rose as a thought occurred to him. “You know, there is another possibility.”
Katherine stared at him. “Do you think he’s ready?”
“Only one way to find out.”
“That’s not our call,” she reminded him. “He needs time and so does she.”
Tommy nodded and stepped forward to wrap his hands around her waist. She kissed his cheek and he smiled. “You’re right, but maybe we can mention it. You know, get the ball rolling a bit. Maybe they could use a push... or a gentle nudge?” Tommy offered when she gave him a pointed look.
“We’ll mention it,” Katherine conceded, the hint of a smile twitching at her lips. “I know how much you believe in him, and I want you to know that I’m with you. One-hundred percent.”
Tommy grinned, pecking her lips before releasing her and heading to the council. Katherine followed him and together, they keyed in the command to contact the rangers.
“Eurydice, Bianca, come in,” Katherine called.

Instinct was an incredible thing. One day you could be so accustomed to fighting, to standing your ground, and the next you could be a runner, born to evade and hide just because you understood that it was what you had to do to survive. The instinct to survive was overwhelming in a mortal form- at least, it seemed to be in TJ’s experience.
From the moment he had woken up in a crater, a herd of cattle mooing softly nearby as the sun just barely peaked over the horizon, his main driving instinct had been survival. TJ had fallen for the appeal of human freedom, of their emotion and passion, he had never understood that there was an inner force that drove them to simply continue existing day after day. Self-preservation was unlike anything he had ever experienced before, but TJ reveled in it.
Self-preservation was what kept his mortal body intact the first time that he found himself at odds with a group he had never known the existence of before he fell and they came hunting for him. It was what had him twisting away when a flash of silver had interrupted his walk home that night. His warrior blood called for him to rain destruction down on all that stood against him, but for once, TJ was smarter than he was rash and he knew that their force was nothing that he could stand against that night alone in a back alley. The one who attacked him would just have to be enough.
Now, even with blood seeping down from the deep slash on his stomach onto the grey shirt, TJ’s new instincts flexed and he fled, leaving a crumpled body in the alley behind him. He moved without direction once his attacker’s last breath had stilled on his lips, knowing that he had to be anywhere but there. With that one act of self-defense, TJ felt heaven stretch that much farther out of his reach and as his wings continued to wither, his mindset went with it.The wood of a door found his fingertips rather than the other way around and TJ was knocking against the unforgiving surface before he had put much consideration into his actions. As he waited, his breaths grating in his chest, he leaned against the unfamiliar doorframe and let his eyes fall closed.

Location : The Winter Fair
Alix had never been very good at coping with the cold - just one of many reasons she was glad not to be the French princess bartered off the the freezing wastelands of Russia. In Austria, things were bad enough, and she often begged Joseph and Claudia to head for warmer climates when the weather turned cooler. She had expected Italy to be warmer, somehow, a pleasant escape from the usual Winter weather, but no such luck. The snow fell steadily, and Alix’s teeth chattered.
She had been browsing the stalls for an extra layer to pull about her, but despite showing off the finery, the very best of goods and wares from their respective countries, none of the stalls had anything that would keep her warm. Alix huffed out a breath that turned to steam when it hit the air, eyes scanning the crowd before settling on a figure who’s outer cloak would more than do.
“Excuse me,” she called out as she approached, pausing until she was sure she had their attention. “Swap cloaks with me?” It was a request on the surface, but Alix did not take kindly to being told no.
