"You might not be," he started, running his hand over the back of his neck, "but i am. How could I forget something that belonged to Sarah. How much else have I forgotten." It wasn't a question, at least not to her, but an angry comment to himself. He closed his eyes trying to remember what she was telling him. Things were coming to him in flashes. It was like he was just coming out of having amnesia. He had been hit over the head a couple of times so maybe he did have something like it. "I don't but please tell me more." I want, and need, to remember."

“Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Don’t give me that look. You know I’m not good with people!”

A total lie. An absolut, shameless, obvious lie. Joel was good with people, he simply didn’t let anyone in because he was afraid his power would hurt them. His lack of control was the reason behind his lonely lifestyle and nothing else. If anything, the only reason he allowed himself to open up, even the tiniest bit, was because he knew Darcy was rather special himself.

And he could melt any ice he made with his power so that was an extra layer of comfort Joel didn’t have anywhere else.

“You take me to a crowded place, chances are everyone’s walking out as popsicles. If they walk out at all, mate-”

Joel laid on his side his hand carding through the other’s hair his nails softly scraping against the scalp as they started to wake up, Joel had been awake for over an hour and he had just been lost in his own mind, so he felt bad for all the questions he was about to unleash on them, but his mind had gotten the best of him, and he had to have answers to his questions. They locked eyes and Joel gave him a soft smile “Good morning.” His hand continued to play with the other’s hair his eyes never leaving their’s “Can I ask you something?” Without waiting for the other to respond he asked anyways “What exactly are we? I mean we’ve done this a few times, and I honestly don’t mind it at all, I enjoy it a lot, I honestly think I enjoy it more than I have with anyone else.” He paused pressing his lips together suddenly at loss for how to word this question “I just, I know we’re more than just friends, and clearly we’re more than friends with benefits but….I just….kind of what to hear you say it. Because I need to know and I just.” he paused, because he was going to say ‘think I’m falling in love with you’, and he knew that they probably wasn’t ready to hear that, so Joel kept that information to himself for now “I just need to know what I am to you? And sorry for asking all this when you first woke up, I’ve been thinking about it since I woke up.”

Uncharted Territory

Ramona sighed, walking up to his door and knocking. Joel had been cold and distant ever since she had finished recovering at his place, it hurt her because she felt like they had grown closer over those few days. She crossed her arms over her chest and waited, feeling her hands trembling slightly from nervousness and her heart feeling as though it was about to explode out of her chest. Ramona didn’t know why she was nervous but it felt like the two of them were crossing into uncharted territory and something about that scared her more than anything.

“No, guapo. Mis padres no saben... Y espero mantenerlo así por el resto de mi vida. ¿Te imaginas cuánto se preocuparían? Yo no quiero eso para ellos,” pensó en voz alta, su mirada perdida en el horizonte mientras disfrutaba de la relajante sensación del agua caliente y de las burbujas del jacuzzi.

Miró a su alrededor por unos momentos. Sus padres estaban de viaje y tenía la casa para él solo. Esos momentos de tranquilidad eran escasos, pero los atesoraba tanto como atesoraba la compañía de su novio. Regresó la mirada a él, quien le acompañaba en el jacuzzi, y descargó suavemente su mano en el regazo ajeno con una expresión cálida.

“Pero ese es el único secreto que les guardo. Digo, ya saben que eres mi novio y todo eso...”

it was the perfect night. The stars were shining bright, the moon was almost full, and the little working generators in Jackson were lighting twinkling lights that had been strung around to act like street lights. Just on queue Barry from down the street was standing on his porch and began singing an Elvis song. Tonight's rendition was of Can't Help Falling in Love. Not being able to help himself Joel stood up from the chair on his porch to look at Maya, holding a hand out. "May I have this dance?" He asked gently.
