Tristan was fresh off his first win, as the goaltender, for the current Dallas Stars season. Jake had gotten himself most unfortunately injured which made him the current top goalie on the roster compared to his usual secondary nature as such. So he was still in bed by lunch time after a long night the night prior. He hadn't gotten home until early after leaving the American Airlines center following the winning game against the Blues. He was sat comfortably in bed with a mug of black coffee and a plate of late breakfast when the dancer had snuck into the penthouse apartment with her own key given their many years of romance thus far.
He hadn't realized he had a visitor let alone her until she actually appeared in the doorway to his bed room. He pulled on his shirt from the ground nearby upon noticing Rin's entry. "Hi beautiful, what are you doing here? I thought you had rehearsal until later." He muttered gently then. "I know I know, I can hear the rant already. I'm supposed to be up and productive by this time. But I didn't get home until..." he cut himself off almost immediately when she started on missing going out with him the week prior. "Oh yeah? You get some kind of bug or something?" He watched after her closely raising an eyebrow then at her slight pause from talking.
He could not have even guessed what was going to follow next in his fiancée's conversation about missed dates and the real reason behind it. When she dropped the word baby, he was damn thankful he was no longer holding the mug of coffee in hand or else he would have dropped the thing straight to the ground at her admission about being pregnant. And good god, had the goaltender never forseen himself being so truly thrilled by the admission. Sure he had been playing uncle and godfather since he had been in high school to Steven's twins all things considered but this took the cake.
"Fuck," he stared back at her. "You're serious?" He got up from the bed almost immediately leaving everything else behind as he stood in front of the dancer in just a shirt and boxers then. "I think that might be even better news than my help at having the Stars be top team in the relegation after our win last night..." the middle Hughes brother crossed towards his bride-to-be then. "When did you find out? How long? What did the doctor say?" He muttered rushing into the list of questions then as he wiped at his eyes with one hand just briefly before moving his other hand from her waist up to her stomach. "This might be the greatest news I've ever had except when you said yes weeks ago..."
Rin stood in the doorway and although she'd wanted it to be less obvious that she had news, her smile was huge. Maybe she could have played it off that she was happy to see him but he was right. If this was a normal morning, she would have been shooing him out of bed or she might have been making him get exercise another way after so many days, almost a week away.
She'd watched every game, held up on the couch, trying to look healthy when he'd call after the games but it was getting hard. She knew that he'd wonder if she didn't go out with him next week for his games because they'd planned that for months. Now, she can go again and will know exactly what was wrong.
"Yep I'm pretty serious at least that's what the doctor said and I've got a picture of a pinto bean to prove it. Although it really does just look like there's this pinto bean in my stomach so I'm mot sure that it's really a baby in there yet. He's gonna have to come up with a better picture next time or I'm gonna tell him his camera is broken." She was being playful with Tristan because she could see the tears in his eyes and he wasn't one that liked to cry so the teary laugh was a lot better.
She placed her hands on his chest. "Okay hold up let me get these answered before you have twenty more. "I just got back from the doctor and getting my ultrasound when I got sick at practice this morning he got me in to make sure I hadn't caught something or hurt my insides with the move I did the other day that I got sick after. Well now I know why, our little bean does like spinning in circles and flying through the air apparently." She looked down at her stomach where Tristan's had was and she covered it with her own. "I get it little bean no more spinning but you better get used to it."
Rin smiled brightly as she kept up the more silly side that she didn't often use. "I'm 10 weeks. It's hard for me. I thought I might be weeks ago but I don't have a regular cycle from dancing, so I just thought I was late again but then I started feeling terrible and I thought something might be wrong. So... Since you couldn't be there and they measured bean and listened for the heartbeat, the doctor recorded it all and gave me a video on my phone. I go again when we get back off your next round of games and that will be more accurate and tell us when the baby will be here. RIght now it's just a guess. I'm far enough along though that we can tell people and I'm a little underweight so I need to fix that.
She kept her hand over his and kissed him on the cheek. "Hey it's fine if this is better news as long as me saying yes is better news than you being a rockstar in your last two games. I laid on the coach with a towel on my head and a trashcan next to me thinking I had the flu but I did watch it." She smiled, well bean and I watched it."
