When You Were Young

He hadn't wanted to come along on this little outing. According to his father, however, it was imperative that they make an appearance. Clarence was fairly certain he could've stayed home and it wouldn't have made any difference in the least. Because for the most part, he'd been looked over and ignored all evening. His father did most of the talking, the people of the town often turning to him, simply to hear his good word and take comfort in his tone.
Clarence was not one of those people. He liked to be as far from his father as possible.
It wasn't that he was a bad man... they were just of very opposing views of things. The way that Clarence wanted to be was inappropriate, according to his father. There were strict rules - like a tight leash upon his neck. And he hated it. When a particularly elder woman had gained his father's attention in conversation, Clarence took it upon himself to sneak out of the building, with no real particular destination in mind, as long as it wasn't there. Stuffing his hands in the pockets of his jeans, he wandered further from the gathering.
It wasn't until he happened upon a pair of teens, looking like they were trying to break into a place, did he stop. Watching them for a moment, his head tipping, trying to see what it was they were actually trying to use or do.
"There's an easier way, you know." His voice finally sounded, offering the pair of them a raised brow. He didn't know what they were aiming to do, but it sure seemed like a hell of a lot more fun than what he'd already been subjected to for most of the evening so far.
