“Nuns? What are nuns? Why do they make the rules?” The joke was lost, with Klara instead frowning in confusion.

James ran forward, never daring to let his grip on his wand grow slack. It remained at his side- prepared at any moment to be lifted, spell blasting forward at impeding danger. Unfamiliar with Knockturn Alley, James felt like he was navigating a maze. Each turn, each building he passed, he could never be sure whether he was on his way out or burying himself deeper. He dashed past a dark alleyway, feet stomping on the cobblestone. A shot flew over his head, light a brilliant green. Without hesitation, James turned, pointing his wand into the dark and firing off a spell before hustling onward. His feet carried him fast, wanting to get somewhere, anywhere close to someone he knew. Something that might make sense of what was happening. The path he ran lead him towards a figure. He couldn’t make out her face, covered by a mask, but he noticed what looked like a pipe in her hand. Too large to be a wand.

Mackerel knew he was free. He’d watched that shadowy version of himself disappear the moment he walked into the dining room. Still, every few steps, he was looking over his shoulder. He saw mirrors all around and tried not to look directly at them. He didn’t really know where he was going next. In the darkness, it was impossible to see if he was in a hallways he’d already traveled through before. But after hours of running, it felt impossible to stand still now. If he did, then the aches and pains of the day might fully settle into his body. Then the memories of the bloodbath might come back quicker, and it’d be harder, now, to reason that he’d done what he had to do in order to survive.
So he kept moving, slowing down as it was impossible to ignore he was growing more tired. He turned, and thought, somehow, he’d fallen asleep on his feet. He couldn’t hear a thing.
Ramona: So, I heard you like bad girls.
Quentin: ..Not really.
Ramona: Oh, thank god.
