Meeting ; Eve & Rex
She’d been careful ; avoiding big box stores and any area that might have once been densely populated. But when supplies began to run low, it was such places that seemed to hold exactly what she needed. There was risk certainly, but it was one she had to take. Evelyn had only been in the store for a short period of time before she heard the noise. Body tensing, fingers had tightened around her machete. When the noise continued, she quickly zipped up the duffle and tossed the backpack over her shoulder before beginning to creep through the store.
Everything nearly dropped from her grip when she peeked around the corner, eyes immediately drinking in the sight of the man before her. A minute or two of careful observation made it clear he was alone, just like her. But the apocalypse had made her skeptical of everyone, so with mild hesitation, she stepped forward, machete pointed at him. Despite her strong stance, the slight flicker of doubt in her eyes was obvious. “I was here first. That’s mine.” Swallowing the lump in her throat, she motioned toward his open bag. If she was smart, she would attempt to bargain with him - after all, nothing came for free in the apocalypse. There was always a price you had to pay, and if he was smart, he’d know that. “I’ll let you take whatever you want.”
