It would’ve been poetic to say that Laura felt the tease of the changing of seasons in her feral bones. Bones that were now sensitive to even the most minuscule temperature shifts but everyone had felt it; the nose dive in degrees as the cold front rolled its way in.-- Despite her body’s achy protest against the chilly weather Laura had preferred it; enjoying that despite all the effort she’d been exerting she hadn’t broken much of a sweat- the light misting of rain, that indecisively started then stopped before starting once more, the only visible moisture on her face.
For a while the only audible sounds coming from Laura had been the gravel crunching underneath her sneakers and her laboured breathing. Her physical body, which was of slender build, having no accurate gauge on her level of fitness. Only confirming what she’d learned through her attempt at boxing; that despite the improvement in many aspects of her being due to her bite- endurance was not one of them. Pausing to catch her breath, she looked over at her company, a very small, self deprecating smile pulling at her lips- prefacing her comment, “in retrospect I’m probably not the best person to go hiking with.”
