Theodore made a face, “Unfortunately… no.” One hand twisted the hem of his coat carefully. He couldn’t tell the boy they were sailing without a map, relying on Gibb’s memory of the destroyed chart. It wasn’t any choice he’d normally support, still made misgivings heard. Thankfully they knew to head for the keyes, and knew those waters well enough to avoid being lost forever.
“A captain isn’t required to inform his crew where we’re going. But I do know,” and it was said with a smile, “That we’re in search of treasure to recover for the King himself.”
The boy’s blue eyes went wide with awe. This was everything he had imagined, and yet to be standing on the deck, it was even better than that. If they retrieved the treasure for the king they would be handsomely rewarded, surely. Mother’s cousin would be most proud.
“Sort of like a pirate then,” Colin offered, his nose crinkling with pleasure at his joke. “But a good pirate.”
