Paty nodded as she moved to hang the skirt of her dress between two branches. She knew Heph was staring but she didn’t take it as anything else rather than surprise. She knew this wasn’t proper but she was so at home around him. Drying off would take a while but she was patient enough to wait.
“I wouldn’t mind. I don’t want you to get ill Heph,” Paty said as she laid beside him. Her cloak was bit enough so she stretched it a bit to lay beneath Heph’s head so he wouldn’t get full of sand. She laid on her side, facing him. He had his eyes closed and this was one of the rare moments were Paty felt like Heph was truly relaxed. Smiling a bit, she curled up and closed her own eyes. She loved to enjoy the silence.
Hearing his question, she opened her eyes and smiled. “You know you’re too kind, right Heph? You have showered me in so many gifts this year already,” She said softly, moving a bit closer. Her small hand rubbed his arm, the one resting across his stomach. She knew her birthday was coming up and Heph always gave her the best presents.
“Actually I like my tiara as it is, it’s beautiful but discreet. I like to pass by unnoticed,” She smiled at him “But a set of earrings and a necklace would be perfect. Though I need something else too,” She said a bit more carefully “Could you make me a belt with a holder for my dagger?” She asked him softly, hoping he accepted “Something practical, not that heavy?”
When their eyes met and he complimented her, she smiled widely. “You must be the only man that things so. You’ve seen me in so many situations and now that I’m soaking, I’m still beautiful? Only you Heph,” She smiled, kissing his bare shoulder. She knew it was very intimate but she wanted to give him little clues of what she felt. “You know you are… you are gorgeous. I don’t say that enough but you are.”
The kiss to his shoulder caused his eyes to open, though he did not look at Paty quite yet. Did she truly find him to be as gorgeous as she said? He sincerely doubted it. . .yet she had never lied to him before. And why hadn’t she? She was under no obligation to tell him the truth about anything, and he would never know the difference if she did lie, especially about this, his looks.
“Thank you,” he said carefully after a moment, finally turning his head so he could see her. The movement of her fingers against his arm made his skin tingle, and he could feel the goosebumps prickling on his forearm.
“A belt? I believe I could do that. I’ll find some nice leather, and tan it for you. And I’ll have a necklace and earrings finished for you in a week and a half, maybe. I already have the stones I would like to use; all that is required is the setting for them.” Jewelry was a common item for the blacksmith. It was more intricate than the large items, the swords and the shields, but he liked having his skill tested.
When it came to her jewelry, there was always painstaking attention to detail from him. Every piece of metal needed to be placed just so, or else he would scrap the idea and start again.
After a moment, Heph moved the arm that rested on his stomach so that his hand could take hers. His face turned back up to the sky, and he watched the few clouds slide leisurely across it. Moments like these were ones that he wished would last forever, especially when she was so close. He could practically feel her body heat on his, and now with her hand in his, he almost felt like pulling her closer. He already wanted to wrap his arm, the one that now held her hand in his, around her shoulders to keep her close, so it took even more self control to simply lie there, without doing what he wanted.
But wait, the little voice inside him said, she kissed you. It was only on the shoulder, but she still kissed you. Obviously she’s feeling something even if it isn’t romantic.
He glanced at her again, before he lifted her hand to his lips, where they pressed to her knuckles. I might as well return the favor.
