Ordinary but Intimate Things
@tomedesvampires (louis) asked: silence + louis — sender and receiver comfortably exist in silence together, both of them working or reading or focusing on something different (thank you!)
Esme's tablet is resting against her legs, herself sprawled across a plush sofa as she works on her latest blueprints. The local hospital is expanding and she, against tough competition, got the job and responsibility of designing the extension. Esme is thankful for her inability to sleep in these situations. Sure, she's more of a freelance architect now; recently, her counselling work has taken prime place over her architectural desires, but she loves them both equally— hence her predicament now. During the day, Esme works as a therapist and through the night, she finishes works through her multiple blueprint drafts.
The hospital itself happens to be one of the oldest buildings in town. Despite the rise of abstract modernity, Esme finds herself trying to strike a balance between the building's original design and the modern necessities for 21st century. She thinks she's nearly there despite the frown pulled together in her concentration.
Eventually, she sits up and displaces her tablet. As much as being a vampire has its supernatural benefits, it funnily enough doesn't prevent eyestrain.
To her surprise, Louis happens to be absorbed in his own world. The spine of the book he's holding is well worn and resembles the many books she adorns upon shelves at home. "Sorry, I must have been so engrossed in what I was doing... I didn't notice you come in."
Her lips curve into a small smile, her head tilting in thought before she adds, "... since you're here, can I get your opinion?"
