Esme was usually one for making conversation. If Alistair was around, Esme was often making the home comfortable for him despite his objections. And by comfortable, she merely just wanted to give the man some towels. Immortal or not, showers were a wonderful invention that everyone could enjoy— if he'd stop being so stubborn.
She's not exactly unfamiliar with slogging it out like this. Her childhood was a blur of helping her parents around the farm. Doing everything from helping lamb to heaving piles of hay from one place to another.
Then, when she first settled in Ashland. When the savings she had extended to a room in someone's house before she could move into the small property attached to the school house. What she wasn't prepared for was how this particular excursion would remind her of those things.
She watched Alistair, her eyes almost glazed over. Where he had to feed, Esme found herself unable to even feel the slightest burn at the back of her throat. She had not realised how much her coven had become her home. "That's no worry," she agreed, perching against a dusty, old chair; careful not to exert too much of herself into the simply action should it break.
The light filtering in through the slats placed over the windows finally caught her attention, the wood beginning to rot. "You know you don't have to do this," she eventually murmured, black eyes dragging themselves towards Alistair's face. "But thank you. For trying."
