Just Zoo & Me
“Why do zoos have to be outside?” Knox asked, suddenly breaking the silence between them.
“Are you asking like you want me to answer? Or just thinking out loud?” Kasey offered, glancing at him as they walked down the sidewalk.
“Just thinking out loud.” Knox, wearing a dark pair of sunglasses stared up at the sky in what she guessed to be disgust. “It’s hot.”
Kasey laughed and draped an arm over his shoulder and shook her head. “It’s going to be fine. I promise. We’ll get cold drinks and ice cream so you’ll stay cool, alright?’ she teased as she ruffled his mop of dark hair.
In looks, Knox resembled her more. But his calm, quiet and easy going demeanor he’d gotten from his dad, oddly enough. Kasey shook her head and ruffled his hair again once they reached the front gate.
“Do you see ‘em?” Knox asked. He leaned up against a pole and looked at her over his glasses. “I’m gonna melt standing here in this boiling sun.” he was teasing now, Kasey knew. She rolled her eyes and checked her watch.
“We’re early.”
“As always.”
“Hey, I don’t like being late....”
“No, you just like being too early.”
