“Tony” came the name of his lover from the soldier’s mouth, both with devotion as well as a sense of firmness as he cupped the man’s cheek and brushed the neatly trimmed facial hair with his thumb. Blue eyes gazing into the eyes of the man who had frustrated him, who had confused him and who had eventually made him feel like he actually had somewhere to belong for the first time in years. “I’m pretty sure there was no turning back from you the day we met, my life was never not going to have you in it...” He trailed off, a soft smile on his lips as those baby blue eyes of his traced every inch of the man’s face as if wanting to remember everything in this moment.
“You are a complicated, sometimes frustrating but incredible man. A good man, a great hero and the person that makes everything we do and have to face that little bit easier for me” He said, voice soft and their lips close as he leaned in further as they lay there in bed together. “Whatever mistakes you think you’ve made or ones we’ll both end up making, we were and never will be a mistake” He promised, leaning in to gently catch those lips in a soft and gentle kiss that demanded nothing and promised everything. “I love you Tony and that’s why for the first time ever I know exactly where my path leads or what I have to do” He said, eyes still on him and the hand on the man’s cheek moving to rest against his chest as the other slipped behind his back and out of view; only to appear again with a small black velvet box in hand. A moment pause, a breath of hesitation before the box snapped open to reveal the beautiful silver ring resting inside. “I know you’ve never been a man for tradition or being stereotypical, but I only want to ask this question once in my life and you’re the only one I want to ask” Steve said, attempting to keep his tone from wavering too much despite the amount of emotion clearly behind every word.
“...Will you marry me?”
