After I finished reading clipped and unbound I sent you a bunch of gushing messages about how much I loved it but I might as well mention it again. I absolutely love when Dean takes care of Cas, and in c&u that's a pretty central part of the story, so that was really cool. Dean being really sweet and gentle with Cas, but above all respectful, gave me the most massive case of warm fuzzies and I want to thank you (again) for that.
ahhhhh, i forgot i had this. thank you so much!
hey all, so i’ve had a couple people ask if they could write sequels or additions to clipped and unbound. i always say no for a couple reasons. one is that this story took me well over a year to write and it represents a good chunk of my life. it’s still the longest thing i’ve ever written, and i’m including the manuscript of my first novel.
the second and more important reason is because of the content of the story. it’s a story with slavery and intense trauma and cas in specific goes through a whole lot of hell for 15 years straight. he has ptsd. i am incredibly protective over the story for this reason, because i also have ptsd and good representation of ptsd in fanfiction is scarce. it’s a very, very difficult illness to write, even when you have it.
maybe it seems silly to some of you that i’m being outright distrustful of other fandom authors, but one person who asked wanted to know if they could write a sequel where dean saves a child at an auction that he and cas went to together. i had to struggle to be polite because with cas’ issues and trauma dean would castrate himself before he would ever, ever take cas, a former highly abused slave, to a slave auction. in chapter one dean lets balthazar stay in the truck because he knows bal should never be near the actual proceedings of an auction again so long as he lives.
and i had another request for a kid!fic sequel. i understand the appeal of kid!fic, but it’s never somewhere i’d take this story. it doesn’t fit for me.
so i am not allowing direct sequels or additions to clipped and unbound. however if you love the story and you want to write something inspired by it, that’s totally fine. i myself have done this in the past. so long as the story doesn’t contain any of clipped and unbound’s continuity, i’m fine with it.
i thank you guys for your understanding.
i won't see this answer till the morning BUT what is ur fave scene from clipped and unbound? either fave scene for the writing process, or fave scene in the final product. or both.
as far as my favorite sene to write, it was where dean realizes he’s falling in love with cas. i remember being so giddy after i wrote that i went to my beta @imnotleavinherewithoutyou and i was like “ELIZA IT’S GREAT I’M SO PLEASED” to which she was like “oh no” because she knows me
but i actually really also like the ~~big twist~~~ at the end and the final scene even though it tried to kill me
i got comments in spanish on clipped and unbound and i was reading them like “okay i got like 70% of this from speaking french but the word at the end of this sentence is confusing me”
they were good comments, the reader was pleased :D so i ended up saying “muchas gracias, me alegro de que te guste” and i’m sure that is fucked up bc it was google translate but hey i’m gonna try
for anyone who has read clipped and unbound more than once, how does it hold up to being read multiple times?
