Matchup Monday #9: Sara Del Rey
Matchup Monday #9: Sara Del Rey
Hello ladies and gentlemen, I am your host, the Baumeister. Now, we all love this fantastic sport of ours, no matter how bad the product becomes (yes, I’m referring to all of you negative Nancy’s out there). Well, today, we’re going to look at three matches of my choosing that is centered around a specific superstar. There may be some good matches, and there might be some bad ones. But, at…

Fighting Back - Cancer Stinks 2013
Great show - lots of fun and loved seeing a different set of guys than I normally do. Also, those ISW matches totally count as far as seeing an ISW show live, you can't tell me otherwise. It was bittersweet to see Addy Star in her last match though...
- Show was great, the Ottawa trip was from hell. Hell I say!
"Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen vs. Claudio Castagnoli - 10/16/09 (C*4 Rise Above 2009)
Crowd is a little annoying at first, but I got over it. The first half of the match was pretty pedestrian aside from Kevin Steen working and jawing with the audience. Then Claudio grabs a mic and cuts a promo about how he's fair, and he could end Steen's career (Steen has a knee injury which he started to sell after a missile dropkick), and gives Steen an ultimatum which Steen answers with a slap.
Now things get interesting as Claudio turns up the intensity ten-fold and goes after the Steen's leg with "jailhouse" tactics. I really dug a spot where after Claudio gets a two count on Steen (after the "waterslide?") he immediately--and I mean in less than a second--slaps on a half crab on the injured knee. It was very small, but showed he wanted that win. Steen wins after countering into a sasorigatame.
Good, but not great match. Makes me appreciate Claudio Castagnoli (whom I really enjoy as Antonio Cesaro).
