Cass, 

I know you’re probably mad at me. I was only trying to help you with this. No matter what pushes you to drugs whether it’s Amanda or it’s something I might have done. I only want you to be happy and healthy. If ruining whatever is left for me to hold onto for you means you’ll stop I will sacrifice that. 

You’re my baby brother. You’re the one person I’ve tried to protect. Seems that I failed. I cannot forgive myself for letting you down. I cannot forgive myself for letting her kill your self esteem. 

If you ever come back to Detroit just know that I’ll be here. Even if you don’t and you ever need me. Let me know.

Absolutely she would. It’s all she could think of but words seemed to fail in that moment. Very unlike  her usually but she had been enjoying the DPD gala. Just casually watching other people having a good time. Dancing was always nice to see. It just got her blood pumping. Well, the romantic blood this time since it’s a slow, soothing lull. 

She smiled up at him. Those eyes were all she could see. How alive, how beautiful.

Jade shifted to place her glass down. Leaving it on a nearby table, she slipped her hand down for his. Curling her fingers firmly, affectionately she gave her affirmation with a gentle tug. “I’m all yours bright eyes.”

HALF MOON.

There is red everywhere: the curtains, her cheeks, the hearts that come to beat and bleed in equal measure across from her. And there is another thing scarlet in this room, though it’s a haunting, a ghost of an object that cannot be seen. A red string, quivering between her pale finger and the thick digit of the man interrupting her peace (isn’t the way of man and woman, tradition and magic: when they come together, all must shatter). She can feel him like a wind, though he moves with too much subtlety to cause so much as a stirring in the hanging drapes behind her -- but Clara can see it, that halt and falter in his step, the subtle normalcies which have ruined the otherwise incredible grace that he moves with.

He’s drunk. And it’s because of her.

An earlier hour, his hand on her back. Don’t, Cassius. It’s a thin-lipped warning, and he heeds it. He keeps his distance, and she holds it dear.

She can see him at the dark edge of the room, holding his liquor like a cross and swallowing it like it’s the blood of Christ - like it’s going to cure him of something, disinfect his sins. But she has been drinking too, and she doesn’t know if it’s the champagne or the strangeness of this place that is making her see things that shouldn’t be -- the only thing she knows for certain is that Cassius’ face is taking on a dark slant, that shadow-stupor he gets when he takes to drink.

She holds her lips together, but she doesn’t hold her legs.

The walk to him is quick because really, even when they are not together, they are not far. Clara’s hand comes to rest gingerly on her ex-lover’s hand, pausing the fingers that lift his drink. “Cassius,” It’s such an awful, beautiful name. Her grip comes to his chin next, a gentle hold of his jaw that betrays how her body knows his body. She speaks with the softness of her touch: “Stop.”
