The source of this darkness came directly from the head of the house, Hector de la Cruz. A former general in a war no one cared to remember, or perhaps forgotten entirely, he, like the house, had not always been a source of darkness. He had once stood tall and proud in his uniform, glad to have served in whatever capacity he had, for even he did not remember now. In those days, there had been a little darkness in the house, but it had had nothing to do with him.
