You're always going to be my favorite person, no matter what, okay?"

Hazel hues held onto the dark ones that had caught his gaze, a hand rising to tuck a strand of hair behind the femme’s ear as she spoke. There were many things he feared; turning out like his father, never being good enough, being unable to protect his friends and family. Of all those, none quite compared to the fear he had of ending up alone. Loss followed him, devoured his soul with each person torn away from him and the last thing he ever wanted was for harm to come to the girl that laid beside him. “Losing you,” Lucas answered softly, digits toying with a strand of her hair. “Putting you in danger’s way. You’re different than the others, Jacks. I’d never be able to forgive myself if something happened to you because of me.”
