Even after spending plenty of time in the fog, surrounded by English-speaking survivors and picking up much of their language and habits, some things about Yoichi will never change. Infallibly polite, he's never got out of the habit of referring to others by their last names, no matter how well he knows them.
And speaking to Claudette now... it reminds Yoichi of how he used to talk with his students, all that time ago. He never imagined he would miss those days as much as he does now... but everything that's happened to him, he's convinced, even this- must have been for a reason.
