Chaos Cannot Be Controlled [Lessons Learned the Hard Way book 1] | Tapas

Sometimes a family is a jaded Millennial recluse, her aggressively optimistic Gen Z student, and an ancient eldritch god of Chaos. And that's okay.

I am so unspeakably pleased to announce that after roughly FIVE years of work, I am finally starting to publish my first Lessons Learns the Hard Way book. 

The first book is entitled Chaos Cannot Be Controlled and follows July, Emma, and Nytep in their efforts to figure out themselves and their relationships while also dealing with hostile supernatural creatures. There’s love (platonic and romantic), there’s magic, there are secrets and lies, and in the end, there will be some very tough decisions to make. 

I currently have three parts published (roughly 3k words altogether) and will be figuring out an update schedule soon. So if you enjoy snappy dialogue, complex characters, and the occasional bit of wordplay, please check it out! If you like what you see, please subscribe so you’ll never miss an update. 💖

Oh, I almost forgot to mention: the cover art was done by the amazing @arkkosun​! They were an absolute joy to work with and produced an amazing cover, so I definitely recommend commissioning them! part of Nytep definitely does despise what he’s become--the fact that he cares about others, the fact that he has a conscience, the fact that he would EVER alter his own behavior or delay his own gratification for the sake of another person. Part of him does feel like he’s weak now, because he would think twice about wiping out a planet full of intelligent life. Part of him thinks he’s a worthless coward who abandoned his purpose and is wasting his potential. 

that part is Xexanoth. Xano HATES Nytep, the individual that is Nytep, the--ugh--person that is Nytep. Hates him. Has absolutely no respect for him. Doesn’t recognize him as a leader or authority figure. Loves using all his ‘weaknesses’ against him, making him suffer for how ‘soft’ he’s become. And he knows he can get away with it, because Nytep is so uncomfortable with the idea of getting rid of him, i.e. merging all of Xano’s features with his own.

Have I mentioned before that Nytep has self-loathing issues...?

“I see. You’re afraid of July. It’s been some time since we’ve been in love, and it’s causing you distress, as it always does.”

“Yes, because it’s stupid and dangerous, as it always is,” Xano growled. “I hate having your feelings forced on me. I can’t trust you when you’re like this to put our best interest first. If I ever meet her, I won’t even be able to trust myself.”

So...you can blame @asleepyprince for this ridiculousness. And Hotep, too, because he encouraged it. Anyway, after that thing I said about Hotep’s tentacles yesterday, Jean wanted me to draw them (him and the tentacles). And as I was looking through my pose references today...well, this is what we came up with (he and I). I’m relatively pleased with it, actually. There is plenty that I could cry about--but I fucking love that sweater and his socks. and the glow on the tentacles isn’t terrible, considering how much effort was lacking from their execution. Soooo yeah, there ya go kiddos: I have finally drawn Christopher Carroll Black for your viewing pleasure.
