Greg Curnoe 1936-1992 Greg Curnoe was an artist from London Ontario Canada. He was a fervent nationalist and an active cyclist. I remember his quote"Close the 49th parallel",a political statement , that he even put, on one of his personal bikes. Bicycle Sport was a cycling shop in Toronto, Ontario Canada, It was owned by Mike Barry. I've said it before,, Part Bike store part bike "gallery". It was such a cool place to go to get a bike made or upgrade and fix worn bike parts. Bicyclesport was the home of Mariposa Cycles, Custom hand made lightweight steel bikes ,, from track, tt, to touring bikes Mariposa did it right. Greg Curnoe owned several Mariposa bicycles, and would occasionally include them in his painting repertoire. One of his paintings on Plexiglass was at Bicyclesport. The last time I remember seeing it was as a divider between the front part of the shop and the rear part where there were built-up bicycles for sale and inspection. Here is the painted plexiglass panel that I am referring to. Many a friend remember this little shop on Queen St. Sadly,,, Greg Curnoe died during a bike ride with the London cycling club, in 1992. Five were injured one died (Greg). I remember it making the evening news.
